CHAPTER ONE

The first man to break her heart, was her father
The night her mother died, it didn’t rain.
Blair always thought tragic things happened in storms, with lightning crashing and the wind howling like grief itself. But the night her world ended, the sky was silent. And the house
was too.
Except for the sounds of fists. Her father’s.
His final blow came with a sickening crack. Then silence.
Blair, only sixteen at the time, pushed Rina behind her and rushed forward, dropping to her knees. “Mama?”
she whispered, Her mother’s eyes though tired, were still open, and wet with tears, her lips moved but no sound came out.
Rina crouched beside her mother’s trembling frame, her small hands pressing a towel to a head wound too deep for rags and too cruel for mercy.
“Mama,” Blair whispered, shaking. “Mama, please…”she takes the rag from her sister and continues trying to stop the bleeding.
Her father stood by the doorway, chest heaving, belt still clutched in one hand. His knuckles were scraped, and his mouth twisted into that familiar snarl—a mix of guilt, disgust, and the twisted pride of a man who felt pain was proof of power.
He looked down at her and said in a voice colder than the grave,
She didn’t listen,” he muttered, every word bitter as acid. “She never listens.”
His wife coughed blood onto the floor, and her eyes, bruised and unfocused—met Blair’s for the last time. A silent plea passed between them. Not for help. Not even for justice.
Just… run.
Blair pushed Rina behind her and shouted, trembling
“Mama?”, shaking her, checking for breath, for heartbeat, for anything.
Nothing.
She turned to him, eyes wide. “What have you done?”
She was so shocked and overwhelmed
He has finally killed her mom.
Behind her, Jonah stood watching. When he finally spoke, his voice was low,too calm for someone who just murdered his wife.“You did this.”
Blair turned, confused, tears burning down her cheeks.
“You killed her,” he said, louder now. “You killed my wife, you pushed her!
Blair, sixteen and already far too old inside, stood frozen by the lifeless mother, she had so many heart desires to accomplish for, Rina’s tiny body pressed against her leg. Her little sister clung to her like a second shadow, face buried in her shirt.
“That’s not true!” she cried. “You beat her! Every night, you—”
Before she could say another word, she heard lightning across her face
That was her father’s slap
She quickly dashed for the nearby knife she sighted and threw it across his face, leaving a scary cut on his left temple.
You”!! He screamed about reaching for her but stopped.
Blair pulled her sister away from her waiting for his next move.
Just wait,he said
Then, calmly, he called the police.
They didn’t investigate.
Jonah was a respected elder in the community. A businessman. A “pillar of strength” in a neighborhood that feared and admired him in equal measure, you could define him as a wolf in pure white sheep’s clothing,he treated everyone with so much love and care, especially his family,in public.
When he said his daughter snapped and attacked her mother during an argument, no one asked questions, because on two occasions,
Blair couldn’t hide her disgust for him when he was acting all sweet around them just after causing her mother’s miscarriage.
And just like that, Blair became an orphan with a murderer’s name.
He didn’t send her to jail . He made it known it was an accident,he did everything to keep her from jail because he had a reputation he couldn’t afford to stain
He just needed someone he could shift the blame on
And she was perfect.
The next morning, before the sun rose, he dragged Blair and Rina out of the house by the arms. Tossed a torn bag at their feet and slammed the door in their faces.
“You’re not my daughters,” he said. “You’re a curse.”
They didn’t cry. Not that night. Not for him.
Blair only smiled, held Rina’s hand tightly and walked away from the only home they’d ever known.
She walked with Rina all night. Past men who stared too long. Past dogs that growled from behind rusty gates.
For weeks, they slept anywhere people wouldn’t chase them away. Under bus terminals. In abandoned shops. Once behind a church, though they were kicked out when the pastor found them and accused Blair of being a harlot.Blair did everything to survive with her sister. She was at a point she cared less about anything else. Stealing and begging for food to make sure her sister wasn’t starving,in one of a her begging attempt she was offered money and some food for s*x ,but the poor girl who had never crossed the river of innocence despite her tempting figure quietly turned down the offer fighting back her tears and moved to her next option,
which was stealing. That day, she was caught and almost beaten to death, unexpectedly,Rina dragged her tiny body through the little crowd gathered crying and rushed to her almost lifeless sister on the ground trying to cover her from the beatings, begging and crying,
We’re sorry”,please leave my sister alone”..sorry sorry, seeing the tiny and skinny girl so protective of her sister, some onlookers felt pity and intervened.the two girls were sent away with some food after a Good Samaritan rushed Blair to a nearby clinic.
After about 4 months on the streets,Blair was able to start earning some cash herself.
She lied about her age to get dishwashing work at a buka. and earned just enough to buy one proper meal a day—a small bowl of rice and beans that she always split with Rina. Sometimes they skipped dinner. Sometimes they drank tap water and prayed it would fill the ache.
Once, a man at the market tried to touch her. She bit him so hard he screamed. She was fired the next day. She blamed herself cursing why God would give her such an appearance that turned men’s head wherever she goes.
They moved constantly. Stayed nowhere longer than a week. If people noticed them too much, Blair grabbed her sister’s hand and vanished before anyone could ask questions.
She kept a knife in her waist pouch. It was dull and old, but she sharpened it every two days with stone and fear. She taught Rina how to scream with her teeth clenched, taught her to run on command and hide with looks.
Blair worked wherever she could—washing plates, cleaning old women’s homes for scraps of food, selling used sachet water bags to recyclers. And even though it wasn’t enough,.
Rina never complained. She just followed Blair, her tiny hand always clutched in hers, eyes wide and quiet like the world had scared the voice out of her.
Rina was only seven. Small, thin, and quiet. She didn’t ask questions, just clung to her sister like a shadow and Blair did our best to protect her.
She promised Rina things would get better.
but it just got worse.
It was a Saturday afternoon. Hot. Loud. The market was buzzing.
Blair had just managed to convince a kind woman to give her leftover plantain pieces. Rina was standing nearby, watching a scruffy white dog sniff at a pile of trash.
Then the dog darted across the road.
And Rina followed, trying to save it.
Blair only turned away for a second.
Engrossed in the plantain pieces she was gathering on the floor. Then the scream came
not Rina’s, a vendor’s—and then the screech of tires, the thunderous thud of a body hitting metal and concrete.
She turned in time to see her tiny hungry sister flying—like a broken doll tossed from a rooftop.
And the car—a sleek black Bentley—vanishing down the street.
No brake lights. No hesitation. No conscience.
The air left Blair’s lungs. She froze for a moment .
Then she ran.. barefoot, dropping everything, pushing people aside, hitting the ground beside Rina’s crumpled body.
Blood everywhere—her head, her nose, her mouth. Her leg bent the wrong way. One of her shoes a few meters away.Blair screamed until she couldn’t hear herself anymore.quickly she got assistance to rush her to a clinic.
The clinic was small and cold and underfunded.but at that moment, just anything that would open her sister’s eyes would do.Fear gripped her chest, she couldn’t breathe.
The nurses didn’t want to touch Rina until Blair shoved her way through with fire in her voice and tears burning her throat.
“She’s dying! DO SOMETHING!”
But this was a medical organization, with no money, means, no treatment, after the emergency treatment, she had to make her deposit for them to start working on the little girl who was almost gone, the doctor already told her, there’s really not enough hope cause her sister only had 26% chance of survival because the impact was huge and Rina is so tiny,
And to make matters worse she’s not being worked on that minute since she still hasn’t made any deposit.
She spent that afternoon sitting on the floor outside the clinic, arms wrapped around her knees. She didn’t talk. Her eyes stayed fixed on the flickering hospital bulb above the front desk, like if she blinked too long, Rina’s heart would stop.
At 6:35 p.m., a nurse came out with pity in her eyes and said softly, “I know someone who can help.”
Blair looked up.sharply, too sharply, fresh tears forming in the corners of her eyes, as if to say and it took you so long to say?
The nurse hesitated,I don’t know if this is right, but you seem to love that little girl so much that nothing else matters.
Please help me,tell me! ,I’ll do anything
I’ll be indebted to you, she’s all I’ve got,at this point the nurse felt so bad for Blair that she told her everything she needed to know on locating him
Blair, there’s an 80% chance he’ll help you“But if you go to him… he won’t give you anything for free.”
Zayn Caelum.
He wasn’t just rich. He was dangerous.
A man who didn’t need guards because the air around him did the work.
A man who owned the police. Judges. Politicians and even presidents.
A man whose smile came with conditions.
He was the kind of man people only approached when they had nothing left to lose.
Blair fit the criteria perfectly, she didn’t care, she just wants her sister alive.
She arrived at a private club that sat high above the city like it owned the moonlight, looking quite collected, pretty attractive as always.
She had scrubbed her hands raw to look cleaner, pulled her hair back to look older, borrowed a pair of black heels from a woman outside the hospital who said, “He doesn’t like girls who look too desperate, after giving her direction..Pretend you still have something he can’t buy.”
Blair walked in, spine straight, voice calm, heart screaming,
scared the guards will deny her entrance ,but to her surprise, they just moved aside,no questions asked.
As she walked past the entrance following the guard that led her inside, her borrowed heels clicked against imported marble, drawing stares from rich men and scornful women fully aware of what she was there for,it looked like that was a normal thing and people came everyday.
but she spared no look.she walked straight to the curtains pointed to her and without hesitation walked inside. He was seated in a more private place than the entrance, tall, attractive , clean-cut in an expensive shirt, and pants that were shifted to his feet
With all the noise she made with her heels,Zayn never looked at her once, his eyes were too fixed on the pantless blonde girl between his legs moving her head in and out of his boxers to be moved by Blair.
“My sister’s dying,” she said. “I need £1.5 million.”
Please help me,
She said plainly, too plainly for her liking, but those were the only words she could mutter despite all the rehearsal she did, for the first time, she was seeing such a scene.
It made her feel weird, but she had come and there was no going back, she was not leaving without that money, she told herself. If she had to go on her knees naked and beg,she would .
Zayn only stole a glance at her before grabbing a handful of his blonde girl’s hair,
Go away
I don’t do business with children,
He mouthed.
I’m not a child she replied loudly
He hissed and pushed the blonde lady away,
Leave he said
pulling Blair to his lap.You are disrupting my fun,he whispered looking her dead in the eye,the little girl who has composed herself so far, couldn’t help shivering.
“S…sorry “
But my sister is dying, can’t your fun wait just for a second?,she whispered almost out of breath,
Zayn kept quiet for a while just staring at the tiny figure on his lab, gathering all the strength in the world not to cry..
He traced her collar bone, eyes falling on her perfectly round breast, he looked away then picked up his phone, went through it and placed it back.
How old?He whispered against her earlobe,at this point Blair shifted slightly when the boneless flesh between his legs pressed against her ass firmly.
26,she said almost like a cry
Zayn smirked amused
Have you seen yourself in a mirror?he said buttoning his shirt,
Urmm,I’m not lying,
Blair tried to put the words together.
“Stand up,”he said scanning her face,but Blair didn't move,she can't afford to.
You don't want to? He whispered slowly moving his hands in between her thighs,Blair froze and sprouted to her feet with a speed of light.
“Thought so,he smirked standing up and adjusting his shirt,
At this point Blair was out of strength to control her tears, though she made no sound, you could visibly see her face all wet with tears.
She was told, this man would help her,but she’s been there for almost 3 hours now and he hasn’t said anything meaningful, and with every minute that passes, her heart tightens scared and worried if her sister is still breathing, why was he just wasting her time, she stared at the food he served her mixed with a feeling of anger and hatred, though she hasn’t met this man long enough, the only thing she was feeling right now is hate and an urge to send a knife straight to his heart.
She cannot bring herself to understand how someone can be so calm and collected when her kid sister is almost lifeless on a hospital bed.he was doing everything slowly,he moved in slow motion, ate in slow motion and even blinked in slow motion, because to her, every minute is now like a year.
Why aren’t you eating?
he said moving to her and brushing some strands of hair off her face.
Blair boiled, rose up and angrily fled to the door. She should have never come here,it was all a waste of time, she wasted time that could save her sister.
It’s locked, Zayn spoke up after watching her struggle with the door in frustration.
Please,I just want to be with my sister right now,let me out.she pleaded
“Why should I? I didn’t force you to come here, “
“You came on your own.”
“YES!!”
I came on my own,but I came because I was told you would help me!
But what have you done so far? Play with my hair, caress my skin and pass stupid comments!
I know nothing comes freely, but can’t all that wait till you help me save my sister!
And if you can’t wait, why don’t you just do what you want and give me the money instead of just wasting my time here?!
Is this all a joke to you?my sister is dying!!!
By the time Blair was done screaming and pouring her heart out,she could barely hold on to enough air.her lungs were tight and her legs failing, she fell to the cold floor.
Zayn brushed the hair off her face and tried to carry her from the floor but she pushed him away screaming,
“Get off me!”
“I hate you,I hate you so much,”she added panting.
Zayn smirked and calmly moved back to her and forcefully carried her to the bed.
Take a shower and get some rest, you stink.
If you feel like eating,
eat.
If you don’t,
Shut up and just sleep because you aren’t going out of this room till morning,he said and reached out for the ringing phone in his pocket.
“You must be crazy!!”
Blair spat out,
“what?!!”
“Are you human?”
“Jesus Christ !”
“Are you telling me to stay here and sleep till morning before going to find money to save my sister?”
At this point,Blair has gone crazy, she was so shocked to meet someone crueler than her father, that her eyes popped out.
Zayn moved away from her trying to hear what the person on the line was saying and Blair jumped right out of the bed to follow him,she hit her leg on the bed frame and headed straight for the floor but Zayn turned right in time to hold her.
He pulled closer to his chest by the waist making her gasp.
No one talks to me like this madam,he gritted between his teeth.
But you are still a kid so I’ll spare you,he said pushing her back on the bed.
Your sister’s surgery was successful, but she’s still unconscious, the doctor said she should be awake by morning.Blair’s eyes widened in disbelief ,her heart shook with blood, hairs standing visibly.her thoughts running wild processing each word leaving his mouth, she couldn’t hear him.she can see his lips moving but she couldn’t hear him.
Are you listening to me?
Zayn voiced out tapping her cheeks, she sprouted to her feet immediately almost falling and causing Zayn to take a step back.
“Sorry,”
“I don’t know if I heard you say my sister is alive or my mind was playing tricks on me.”
Zayn chuckled and rolled his eyes at how fast she’s able to be calm and crazy in minutes.
Your sister was transferred to a better hospital.the moment you walked into my private hub ma’am,everything was taken care of and her surgery went well,so can you stop shouting?
Zayn explained calmly and stepped away from her.he was about to walk out when she fell on the floor unconscious.
She fainted, probably out of excitement or exhaustion.
He assigned some maids to take care of her and went straight to his club, grabbed a lady by the wrist and sent her to a room to calm his nerves.
As the lady brushed her lips against his dick,he exhaled relaxing and tilted his waist forward then pushed her head down leaning back as thoughts of Blair’s tiny body flooded his mind,
Very tiny and far shorter compared to him yet,too attractive and s*xually pleasing for her age.
He still couldn’t bring his thoughts together on why he helped her.he never makes deals with kids, she’s barely 17, and the worst of it all is she looks younger, when he first saw her,he thought she was 14 until he got details that she was 16,which is why he tried so hard not to laugh seeing Blair try very hard to look 26.
Girl?..
You don’t even look your age,he whispered, making the girl rocking her head back and forth between his legs look up at him.
“What?,she asked
“Who asked you to stop?!!
He almost yelled.
“S…sorry” she whimpered about to fall back in act,
Get out,he voiced pushing her away from him,got up and pulled the rest of his dress off then went into the washroom.
Once he got into the shower, thoughts of Blair came rushing into his head, frustrated,he grabbed the soap, filled his palm and started stroking his dick till he was almost breathless.
When he finally got it down,he showered and headed back to his room, and there it continued.
Maybe because she was too young to be there
Or maybe because she was too sharp mouthed ,but it definitely wasn’t because he pitied her…he convinced himself, upset
Then brushed her thoughts aside.
Blair woke up with a slight headache and swollen eyes
She had cried more than an ocean the previous night anyways,at least she was able to save her sister ,she smiled .
She has never been this happy her entire life, not even when her mom was with them. She wondered how her mom would be feeling right now.will she be proud of her?
she didn’t let her sister die…she didn’t fail her,new tears formed in her eyes as little smiles played around her lips.
She misses her,and she knows her sister does too.
When their mother was alive, the house didn’t feel like home—but it was survivable. She would cook with swollen fingers, clean with a bruised back, hold Rina in one arm and press cold rags to Blair’s own injuries with the other.
She stitched their world together with silence. And hope.
She was the reason Blair stayed. Not for Jonah. Not for the lie they lived under
Then she was gone.
And they are now alone in a world built to crush girls who didn’t know how to beg.
While she was buried in her thoughts the door sprung open and two maids walked in with a guard.her heart skipped a bit.
She knows she was in debt;
And nothing he did for her was free but she couldn’t help herself wishing to be let go off.she’s definitely going to do everything in her power to pay back but ..
Her thoughts clouded.
Who will look after her poor Rina?
She shifted uncomfortable when the guard approached her,
“Good Morning “
here ,he said handing her a credit card
A dress and hospital address.she narrowed her eyes but he said nothing, turned and walked out.
When the maids finished serving her breakfast, they followed, none sparing her a look.
She sat quietly confused…
Her stomach growled snapping her out of her thoughts.that’s hunger she whispered dashing to the food served .
She just remembered she hadn’t eaten anything since yesterday.
After freshening up she peeped outside and quietly walked out of the room still confused and worried,he had given her a card that holds exactly the money she demanded despite saying her sister’s bills were taken care of.
She kept staring at the note given by the guard and wondering if Mr Zayn pitied her and was being nice to her.Is he really very dangerous as described?”
she rolled her eyes,of course he is ,she said out loud, bumping into another guard.she froze and took a step back.
