Last minute braking should not be a substitute for looking and thinking ahead when driving.

Anticipate dangerous situations and take positive actions early enough to prevent them from developing into accidents.

The distance you leave between you and the vehicle in front is very crucial to avoid a possible rear end collision.

Leave at least 3 seconds Following Distance between you and the vehicle in front by using the "Time and Reference point method".

This will provide you enough time and space to think and maneuver safely in case of danger.

Don't leave your faith to luck, drive defensively. It will make you a professional and better driver. It will save your life and other road users.

Avoid SPEED Driving. "It is better to be LATE, than to be the LATE".

Drive at a reasonable speed which makes it possible to stop within a distance you wish to.

Remember, the ability to stop in good time depends on your speed, road and tyre conditions.

From 18th July 2024, the "Police Invisible Eyes Are Watching" ( ) will take effect by deploying digital systems and mechanisms to apprehend over Speeding and other road traffic offences and issue tickets for offenders.

Don't be a victim. Be safety minded, not safety blinded.

Road Safety is not just about a driver and a vehicle. It's includes pedestrians since they are also road users.

Between January to February 2024, it was reported that, 381 pedestrians were knockdown on our roads.

Even though this is a reduction from 382 in the first two months of 2023 (-0.26%), we believe that it is on the high side for people to lose their lives in that manner.

How do you use the road as a pedestrian?

Do you use the legal designated place for crossing a road? like the pedestrian crossing? footbridges? when the traffic lights are red for vehicles at traffic intersections?, do you walk on the pedestrian walkway and mostly facing oncoming traffic?

If all your answers are NO to the questions above, then you are NOT doing something right as a pedestrian and that is dangerous to you and other road users.

Always walk or cross the road at a safe and legal place to save your life.

Road transport is just one of the many transport modes in Ghana. Unfortunately we are losing a lot of lives through avoidable road carnage. These includes pedestrians, occupants of vehicles and other road users

Until a total integration of our transport system couple with discipline and enforcement of road traffic regulations, these lost of lives is not ending any time soon.

In the mean time, we have a responsibility as road users to be safe whenever we are using the road by taking precautions, observe and obey the rules and regulations guiding our roads.

Take your safety in your own hands when using the road. It is a shared responsibility.

Don't be part of the statistics.
