President Mahama scraps fuel allowance/allocation to appointees

President John Dramani Mahama has, effective immediately, directed the cancellation of payment of fuel allowances and allocation of fuel to all political appointees.

The directive forms part of a broader curb in government expenditure aimed at cutting cost and channeling public funds into priority areas.

The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make.

The latest cost-cutting measure follows sweeping reductions in the size of government through the appointment of fewer Ministers and Presidential Office staff. Other measures have included stopping satellite TV subscriptions for offices at the Presidency and other government facilities.

✍️ 5th July, 2025 || Bogoso Prestea Mine Workers Slam Lands Minister’s Silence as Mine Collapse Crisis Deepens
---------------------

Frustrated workers of the struggling Bogoso Prestea Mine are demanding answers from Lands and Natural Resources Minister Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, over his failure to act on promises to revive the mine, following his visit in May 2025.

The workers fear that the Minister’s inaction could lead to further deterioration of critical infrastructure at the site.

At a mini demo at the mine site on Wednesday July 3, Isaac Amprofe, one of the spokesperson for the workers, has called out Hon. Buah for not fulfilling his pledge to address urgent issues affecting the mine.

“There is no visible effort by the government to salvage the situation,” Amprofe told *Trinity News. “We’re also angered by Heath Goldfields, which claims ownership but lacks the financial capacity to operate the mine. Hon. Kofi Buah’s silence is unacceptable while the mine deteriorates.”

Amprofe warned that rising water level now reaching level 18 threatens the structural integrity of the Prestea Underground Mine. He also raised concerns over unchecked encroachment by illegal miners due to the absence of safeguarding measures.

Workers insist that Heath Goldfields lacks the financial strength to operate the mine, accusing the company of being a broker rather than a serious investor capable of reviving the mine’s fortunes.

The workers’ growing frustration highlights the urgent need for government intervention to prevent further collapse of the once-thriving mine.
