CCTU Launches ICAG Students’ Society Chapter to Nurture Future Accounting Professionals
Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) has officially launched the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) Students’ Society Chapter under the theme, "Empowering Future Accountants for Excellence."
The launch ceremony brought together members of the University Management, accounting professionals, lecturers, students, and invited guests to celebrate a significant milestone in promoting professionalism, ethical leadership, and career development among aspiring accountants.
The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Ben Ebo Atom, an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance and Dean of International Programmes and Institutional Linkages at CCTU. In his address, he encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the ICAG Students’ Society to enhance their academic, professional, and leadership development. He noted that active participation in the society would prepare students for successful careers in the accounting profession.
The Head of the Department of Accountancy and Finance, Prof. Yaw Ndori Queku, described the establishment of the society as a major step toward nurturing competent accounting professionals. He stated that the chapter would help instill professionalism, discipline, and ethical values in students while equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to meet the demands of the profession.
Delivering his remarks, Mr. Paul Andoh, Director of Internal Audit at Cape Coast Technical University, underscored the importance of integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the accounting profession. He urged students to pursue excellence and remain committed to the ethical standards that define chartered accountants.
On his part, Mr. Kwabena Owusu, Director of Finance at Cape Coast Technical University, advised students to remain focused on both their academic and professional development. He emphasized that professional qualifications, such as those offered by ICAG, provide graduates with a competitive advantage in the job market and open doors to diverse career opportunities locally and internationally.
The guest speaker, Mary Adu Esq., a Legal Practitioner, challenged students to uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism throughout their careers. She stressed that success in today's professional environment depends not only on academic excellence but also on integrity, effective leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
She further encouraged students to seek mentorship, build strong professional networks, and continuously develop the competencies required to thrive in an increasingly dynamic business environment.
The event also highlighted the numerous benefits of ICAG membership, the critical role chartered accountants play in national development, and the importance of professional certification in enhancing employability and career progression.
The newly inaugurated ICAG Students’ Society Chapter is expected to organize seminars, workshops, mentorship programmes, networking events, and career development activities designed to equip students with practical knowledge, professional competencies, and leadership skills essential for success in the accounting profession.
The ceremony concluded with a call on students to actively participate in the activities of the society and strive to become competent, ethical, innovative, and globally competitive accounting professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to national and international development.
