Earlier today, I had the honour of joining the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, to officially launch the Improving Resilience of Coastal Communities in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire project in the Anloga District.
This multi-country climate adaptation initiative, funded by the Adaptation Fund, is being implemented by a consortium comprising the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), Habitat for Humanity International (HfHI), and the University of Twente. The project aims to strengthen the resilience of coastal populations in both countries against the increasing threats of flooding, coastal hazards, and climate-induced vulnerabilities.
I was particularly delighted that Whuti—one of our vibrant coastal communities—hosted this important event as a beneficiary of the Ghana component of the project.
In the Anloga District, the beneficiary communities include Agorkedzi/Atiteti, Agbledomi, Dzita, Tegbi, Woe, Lagbati/Lashibi, and Whuti. The launch brought together key stakeholders: Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Assembly Members, and Opinion Leaders from these communities to engage, collaborate, and affirm a shared commitment to protecting our coastlines and safeguarding livelihoods.
