The Volta Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA-Volta) on Thursday, September 4, 2025, launched Phase II of its flagship Press Centre project in Ho, marking a significant milestone in the region’s media
development agenda.
The brief launching ceremony was chaired by the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, who pledged to personally lead fundraising efforts for the project. A proud member of the GJA, Hon. Gunu described the initiative as a symbol of the Association’s identity, legacy, and spirit in the region. “Let us do it together, so that together we can be proud,” he urged, encouraging media practitioners and stakeholders to contribute their “widow’s mite” before seeking support from corporate entities and other partners.
To demonstrate his commitment, the Minister donated 100 bags of cement, 1,000 concrete blocks, two trips of sand, one trip of chippings, and GH¢20,000.00. There were also pledges by individuals and some stakeholders present towards the project.
On his part, Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, Chairman of GJA-Volta, described the event as a celebration of collective effort and a strategic step in advancing the Association’s mission. He outlined the scope of the completed facility, which will include a 120-seater conference room, two executive offices, a boardroom, a reception area, and a sixunit ensuite accommodation block.
The Press Centre project was initiated in 2019 under the administration of Mr. Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, with Phase I delivering the ground floor—comprising an office, a restaurant with a mini bar, and a meeting area. The Phase II design, developed by the Ho Zonal Office of the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), was commissioned under the leadership of immediate past Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Agbaxode.
Dr. Belley acknowledged the contributions of both past chairpersons, who were present and pledged their continued support. GJA members and media practitioners are expected to contribute at least GH¢200.00 each to help accelerate the project’s completion.
The launch attracted a diverse group of stakeholders, including Mr. Christian Hokey, CEO of Doelyne Enterprise; Rev. Dr. Bright Adonai, CEO of Adonai Estates Ltd; Mr. Dela Gbeve, representing the Association of Ghana Industries; Mrs. Maria Gwira, Executive Director of Dede Media Foundation; and representatives from the 66 Artillery Regiment, Ho Teaching Hospital, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Lands Commission, among others.
To ensure effective oversight, a Project Management Committee was inaugurated. Members include Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, Ivy Setordjie, Lambert Atsivor, King Freeman Nutsokpoe, Elorm Aryee, Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, McLiberty Misrowoda, Charles Suglo, Kafui Gati, and Tilda Acorlor.
The project is scheduled for completion by May 2026.
