In this newsletter, Prof. Carlene Kyeremeh advocates for the decolonisation of higher education by replacing Western-centric business models with African case studies. She argues that relying on North American or European examples creates a cognitive gap for students, making economic theories feel abstract and disconnected from their local reality. By integrating topics such as the African Continental Free Trade Area and regional firms like MTN Ghana, universities can better prepare graduates for the specific markets in which they will work. The text highlights how this shift fosters active engagement and moves students away from intellectual dependency on foreign frameworks. Ultimately, she invites educators and business leaders to collaborate in building a curriculum that validates and explores African economic experiences.
Prof. Carlene Kyeremeh is an Associate Professor of Economics and currently serves as Vice President for University Advancement, Recruitment, and Research at All Nations University. She holds a Master of Science in Economics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, and teaches Economics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at All Nations University.
