There is growing anger among English football fans over the Premier League fixture schedule, especially the Saturday kick-off times.
The official account of Sunderland A.F.C. posted a photo of their supporters leaving Sunderland at dawn to travel to Bournemouth for the match. The journey takes around six hours by car β and on top of that, the game kicks off at 12:30pm local time.
This has caused a lot of frustration among fans. Many feel the league does not take supporters into consideration, particularly those who travel long distances to back their teams.
The main issue is that the Premier League schedules matches in a way that suits broadcasting partners, such as TNT Sports. Each broadcaster is given exclusive time slots to avoid overlap with other channels, maximising TV revenue for the league.
While this approach boosts income through lucrative broadcasting deals, fans argue that they are the ones who ultimately pay the price β whether through exhausting travel schedules or increased expenses.
