HAIR ON OUR BODY
1. Eyelashes
Natural use / What they protect:
Your eyelashes are like a fence + motion sensor for your eyes.
1. Trap dust, sweat, insects - The curved shape + 3 rows catch particles before they hit your eyeball.
2. Reduce airflow- They slow wind/dust so your eye doesnât dry out too fast. Blinking + lashes = eye stays moist.
3. Reflex trigger- Tiny nerve endings at the base. When something touches lashes, you blink automatically. Thatâs your fastest defense.
Do not remove all nor replace with artificial.
Fake lashes donât have nerves, so you lose the âblink reflexâ. Also, glue + heavy fakes can block oil glands at lash line â styes, dry eye, irritation. Natural lashes are spaced + angled perfectly so tears flow right. Too many fake ones = more debris gets in.
Do they have a size/purpose?
Yes. Upper lashes are longer âź8-12mm, curve upward. Lower lashes are shorter âź6-8mm, curve down. That V-shape creates a shield. They also grow in cycles and fall out naturally â 30% of them at a time â so your eye is never left unprotected.
2. Eyebrows
Natural use / What they protect:
1. Sweat/rain gutter - Eyebrow shape + hair direction channels sweat, rain, water away from your eyes. Try it: sweat drips down your temples, not straight into eyes.
2. Glare reduction - The brow ridge + hair shade your eyes from sun, reducing glare.
3. Communication - They move to show surprise, doubt, anger. Important for social interaction.
4. Impact buffer- They give a tiny cushion if something hits your forehead.
Do not shave all .
Youâll get more sweat/rain straight in your eyes. Stinging sweat + salt will irritate eyes more, making you blink/blind temporarily. Also lose facial expression cues.
Size/purpose
Eyebrow hairs are short âź5-7mm and donât grow long. Thatâs on purpose: long hair would block vision. Theyâre coarse so water runs off fast.
3. Hair on your head.
Natural use / What it protects:
1. Brain/Head protection - Hair + scalp act like a helmet. Hair traps air â insulation. Keeps head warm in cold, shades scalp from direct sun/UV in heat to prevent overheating/sunburn.
2. Impact cushion - Hair distributes force if you bump your head.
3. Sweat wick + barrier - Absorbs sweat so it doesnât all run straight down your face/eyes. Also traps dust/pollen.
4. Vitamin D regulation - Scalp under hair still gets filtered UV, helping vitamin D production without burning.
What it does for brain/eye:
Hair doesnât touch brain directly, but it regulates scalp temperature. Brain is sensitive to overheating/cold. Stable scalp temp = brain works better. For eyes: head hair + sweat absorption keeps less sweat dripping into eyes.
Do not shave all.
You lose insulation + UV protection. Bald scalp sunburns easily â skin damage/cancer risk. Also lose sweat control â sweat will run into eyes more.
Size/purpose
Head hair is the longest body hair, âź2-3 years growing phase, can reach 1 meter+. That length = more insulation, more air trapped. Thickness/density varies by person/genes â denser hair = more protection.
Key point about replacing with artificial
Artificial lashes, brow tattoos, wigs can look good, but theyâre âdecorâ, not âfunctionâ.
1. They donât sense touch â no reflex
2. They donât channel sweat/water the same way
3. Glue/chemicals can irritate skin + block pores/oil glands
4. No UV protection, no air-trapping for insulation
So trimming/grooming is fine. Removing entirely leaves that body part more exposed to dust, sweat, sun, injury.
Nature is smart â short hair for places that need vision, long hair for places that need insulation.
