Lawyer Atta Akyea has expressed confidence that Chairman Wontumi should be granted bail while he appeals his prison sentence, arguing that the circumstances of the case support his release.

Speaking to the press in a video shared by Adom TV on October 15, 2026, Atta Akyea explained that the legal team was at the Accra High Court to pursue a bail application pending appeal.

He said he believed the court should consider the relevant factors and allow Wontumi to regain his freedom while the appeal process continues. He added that if Wontumi loses the appeal, he would have to return to prison.

Atta Akyea also argued that there were legal issues surrounding responsibility for the mining activities in question. He expressed the view that the case presented strong grounds for the judge to consider granting bail.

His comments came as Chairman Wontumi appeared at the Accra High Court in connection with the application.

Chairman Wontumi was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment over illegal mining at the Samreboi concession linked to Akonta Mining.

A frustrated couple has confronted a doctor after their baby turned out to be a girl, despite the doctor allegedly telling them during the pregnancy that they were expecting a boy.

In a video shared by Gossips24 TV on October 14, 2026, the husband is seen angrily expressing his frustration, accusing the doctor of misleading them.

He explained that based on the doctor's prediction, they bought items for a baby boy, which has now cost them a significant amount of money.

The wife also stated that the doctor told her she would give birth to a boy following a scan, but she delivered a girl instead.

She insisted the doctor is at fault and responsible for everything that has happened.

The couple demanded answers from the doctor, saying they were expecting a male child, not a girl.

During the confrontation, the doctor reportedly said the woman had told him she would take her own life if she delivered a girl.

The husband then jumped in, saying that was not the doctor's business.

The couple insisted they wanted an explanation for why their expected baby boy turned out to be a girl.

Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder and leader of International God’s Way Church, has declared his readiness to hire a team of 20 lawyers to represent him in his ongoing divorce dispute with his wife, Florence Obinim.

In a video shared by Kansem Media on October 13, 2026, the bishop said he was prepared to strengthen his legal team if Florence decided to bring more lawyers into the case.

His comments come amid the couple’s reported divorce proceedings and disagreements over the settlement demands, including a request involving the main branch of International God’s Way Church at Tema.

Obinim also made it clear that he was not willing to give Florence any money, according to his remarks in the video.

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has directed banks and payment providers in Ghana to start collecting statutory taxes on some foreign digital services from October 15, 2026.

In a notice explained by GRA Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong, banks will collect the applicable VAT and related levies when customers use Ghana-issued cards to pay for qualifying services.

According to the Commissioner-General, the total rate is 20 percent, made up of 15% VAT, 2.5% NHIL, and 2.5% GETFund Levy as provided in the VAT Act, 2025.

Speaking in a video shared by JoyNews on October 14, 2026 and monitored by Kansem Media, Mr. Sarpong said the system is not adding another 20% to what customers already pay, as the tax is already embedded. He explained that it is a smart way of collecting the tax.

He said about 92 companies are currently remitting VAT to the GRA, so pricing from those merchants will not change.

However, about 100 new emerging companies that are currently not charging VAT have been identified and will gradually be added to the system.

He emphasized that the tax is for services, not products. Goods that come through airports or seaports already attract duties and VAT at the point of entry, so they will not be affected in the initial rollout.

Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder and leader of International God’s Way Church, has reacted publicly to reports concerning his ongoing divorce proceedings with his wife, Florence Obinim.

In a video shared by Ghpage TV on October 13, 2026, Bishop Obinim addressed a court document he said was connected to the divorce case and outlined what he claimed Florence was requesting as part of the settlement.

According to him, Florence is demanding GHC2 million, a house he built in Spain, the main Abroso church at Tema, and GHC10,000 every month as settlement.

During a church service on October 13, he also denied claims that he had threatened to kill Florence, insisting that he had never made such a statement. He appealed to the Abroso family not to believe the allegation.

Obinim reacted angrily to the letter, saying Florence is "s i c k in the head" and questioning whether she has started smoking.

He expressed deep frustration over the demands, particularly the request for the Tema Main Church.

Rev. Francis Antwi, popularly known as Rev. Obofour and founder of Anointed Palace Chapel, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to prohibit pastors from using school classrooms and other school facilities for church services.

Speaking during a church service on October 11, 2026, Rev. Obofour said if he were President of Ghana, he would not allow any pastor to use classrooms for church activities.

According to him, the government struggles to raise funds to build school blocks and to provide chairs, but pastors who use the classrooms for services often end up destroying the chairs and other property.

He stressed that such activities should be banned to protect school property.

According to the pastor, some churches that use classrooms for worship services damage the furniture provided for students.

Rev. Obofour added that if pastors insist on holding church services in classrooms, they should also consider holding services in hospital theatres.

His comments have drawn attention to the use and maintenance of public school facilities for activities outside regular teaching hours.

His comments come amid the implementation of the new traffic regulations.
