PROFILE OF GAFβS NEWLY APPOINTED CDS β MAJ GEN T OPPONG-PEPRAH
A release dated Wednesday 24 January 2024, issued and signed by the Communications Director at the Presidency of Ghana β Mr Eugene Arhin, has the appointment of Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah as the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) β His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, replacing Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, who has completed his Tour-of-Duty and proceeds to retirement, effective Thursday 1 February 2024.
Maj Gen T Oppong-Peprah was commissioned into Ghana Military in 1986, as part of Regular Career Course (RCC) 26 after being adjudged The Best in order of merit and awarded the Military Cane at the Ghana Military Academy, and was posted to the Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment, Gondar Barracks, Accra as a Second Lieutenant.
His civil educational qualifications include a Master of Arts in International Security and Strategy from Kings College, London, United Kingdom (UK), and an Executive Master of Business Administration (Human Resource Management) from University of Ghana, Legon.
He also has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Administration (Human Resource Management) from the University of Ghana and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Administration from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Maj Gen T Oppong-Peprah has undertaken several career progression courses. He is the first and the only Ghanaian military officer to have attended the Combined/Joint Forces Land Component Commanders Course at the United States of America (USA) Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
He is also a graduate from the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies, London, UK and did his Senior Intelligence Course at the Joint Intelligence Centre, Strasbourg, France.
Maj Gen Oppong-Peprah also studied Law of Combating Terrorism at the Defence Institute of International Legal Studies, Newport, Rhode Island,
