And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing." (Isaiah 10:27)
Modern religion has domesticated one of the most powerful concepts in the Kingdom of God: The Anointing.
We have reduced the anointing to a religious aesthetic. We call a singer "anointed" because their voice gives us goosebumps. We call a sermon "anointed" because it provokes an emotional reaction. We have equated the anointing with charisma, talent, atmospheric chills, and human eloquence.
Because we have misunderstood its nature, we have misused its power.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit is not an emotional stimulant designed to make you feel spiritual on a Sunday morning. It is military-grade equipment. It is the divine enablement, the raw, unadulterated power of the sovereign God, placed upon a human vessel for the express purpose of executing a Kingdom mandate and destroying the operations of darkness.
Jesus did not need the anointing to exist as the Son of God. He needed the anointing to wage war as the Son of Man.
When He stood in the synagogue in Nazareth to announce His earthly ministry, He did not declare, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me so we can have a good service." He laid out a tactical, militant manifesto:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed..." (Luke 4:18)
