New Technological Innovations - Zuckerberg smart glasses
At Meta Connect 2025, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses paired with a Neural Band wristband that reads brain-to-hand signals using surface electromyography (sEMG). The system allows users to silently type via finger gestures, with Zuckerberg demonstrating speeds of 30 words per minute — nearly matching iPhone typing speeds.
The smart glasses can display Meta apps, directions, and real-time translations, while preserving social presence compared to smartphones. Zuckerberg emphasized: “The promise of glasses is to preserve this sense of presence that you have with other people. I think that we’ve lost it a little bit with phones, and we have the opportunity to get it back with glasses.”
Meta has invested $70 billion since 2020 into this technology, framing smart glasses as a more prosocial alternative to phones and a step toward reducing reliance on Apple and Google’s app ecosystems.
