The Area Manager of VRA/NEDCo, Ing. Eric Boaheng has assured residents of the Builsa Traditional Area and parts of the North East Region that his outfit is working diligently to resolve the persistent erratic power supply in the area.
Speaking on Radio Builsa on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Ing. Boaheng explained that the outages are mainly caused by bats getting electrocuted on high-tension lines.
He said VRA/NEDCo began fixing insulators on the lines last year after engaging stakeholders, which initially stabilized the situation. However, the bats later shifted to other sections, prompting ongoing works to insulate the remaining portions. He noted that the problem is expected to be permanently resolved by the end of this year or early next year.
The Area Engineer, Ing. Ishmael Kwofie dismissed claims that a new substation is the permanent solution. He stressed that the load on the Kassena-Nankana, Builsa, and North East substation is not excessive, comparing it with the Bolgatanga substation, which carries a heavier load than Navrongo substation which supply these areas.
Meanwhile, Area Customer Service Officer, Mrs. Alima Barmie appealed for patience from consumers, noting that the outages result in revenue losses since power is not distributed during such periods. She added that staff of VRA/NEDCo also feel the impact as they are equally electricity consumers.
