GHIMS Begins Active Operation in CCTH
--------------------------------------------------------------
Story by Emmanuel Martey

The Health Minister, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS) is now actively in use in the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) marking the beginning of a state owned digitization of patients records system.

He said this during his visit to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where he toured key departments. The Minister said the rollout forms part of government’s decisive move to secure a permanent, state-owned electronic health information platform that protects patient data and supports efficient service delivery.

He highlighted that the recent disruption in the nation’s electronic health systems had reinforced the need for government to own both the software and associated hardware to ensure continuity, data security, and seamless integration of future service providers.

Hon. Akandoh also underscored the importance of patient dignity and professionalism, charging health workers to treat all clients with respect as government works to create a conducive environment for quality service delivery.

The Minister emphasized that while some reforms may be uncomfortable, they are essential for equitable distribution of health personnel and improved services across all regions. He called for constructive engagement, unity of purpose, and a shared commitment to delivering the highest standards of care to the Ghanaian population.
