STU Strengthens Research Capacity with Grantsmanship Training Workshop

Sunyani Technical University (STU) held a one-day grantsmanship training workshop at the K. Nsiah Auditorium to build the capacity of its Grantsmanship Committee in securing research funding. The session, led by Prof. Paul Sarfo-Mensah, equipped participants with skills in crafting competitive grant proposals and highlighted opportunities in grants and consultancy work.

Prof. Sarfo-Mensah emphasized the importance of measurable outcomes in grant projects but criticized the Ghanaian government’s limited funding support for universities, especially in tackling issues like illegal mining.

Prof. Samuel Awuah-Nyamekye, Chairman of STU’s Governing Council, underscored the role of grants in advancing university growth and pledged to support faculty development, including academic publishing and increasing the number of full professors.

Vice-Chancellor Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah admitted that STU lags behind other technical universities in winning grants but reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to strengthening staff capacity in proposal writing to boost research output and funding success.
