UDS Student Sentenced to Death for Murder Over Relationship Dispute

Salifu Nurudeen, a Computer Science student at UDS Nyankpala, has been sentenced to death for killing fellow student Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu over a romantic rivalry. The victim had started dating Nurudeen’s ex-girlfriend.

Wumpini was found stabbed to death on September 25, with his phone missing. Police traced the phone to Nurudeen, who had used it to send misleading messages. He was arrested and later found guilty of murder by the Tamale High Court.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE UNIVERSITY FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (UDS) ON A FALSE AND MALICIOUS TIKTOK VIDEO

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has taken note of a misleading video circulating on TikTok that falsely alleges our students enter examination halls with pre-prepared answer sheets. We categorically refute this baseless and damaging claim.

UDS upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and operates under stringent examination policies to ensure fairness, credibility, and transparency.

Our students undergo rigorous academic training, and our examination processes are closely monitored to maintain our institution’s hard-earned reputation.

This false allegation is not only an attack on our integrity but also an attempt to tarnish the reputation of our students, faculty, and the university as a whole.

We, therefore, demand that the producers of this defamatory content immediately retract the video and issue an unqualified public apology. Failure to do so will leave the university with no choice but to take legal action to protect its image and uphold its credibility.

While UDS acknowledges the power of digital media and encourages content creation in this new media age, we call on all digital content creators to exercise ethical responsibility. The right to create and share content comes with the duty to ensure accuracy, fairness, and respect for others' reputations.

Misinformation and sensationalism can have serious consequences, especially for institutions like UDS, which thrive on their credibility. We urge creators to verify their claims before publication and avoid content that spreads falsehoods or damages reputations.

We encourage the public to disregard this misleading content and continue to support UDS in its mission to provide quality higher education and uphold the principles of academic excellence and integrity.
