HISTORY OF BIDABIAKYE / BITEBISO — The Double-Decker Umbrella*

This is the most powerful royal symbol in Akan history, and it belongs to *Techiman (Takyiman)*.

*1. Origin — From Bonoman:*
Historically, all royal umbrellas (Bamkyim) come from the Bono people. When *Nana Asaman* founded Bonoman around 1295 AD, chiefs used a *single-decker umbrella*. This was the original Bamkyim.

*2. The Invention — 1650s:*
In the 1650s, *Bonohene Nana Akumfi Ameyaw II* introduced a new form — *two umbrellas in one*, one sitting on top of the other.

He called it:
- *Bidabiakye*
- *Bitebiso* — which literally means *"someone sits on someone else" / "something is placed on top of another"*

*3. The Meaning & Power:*
It was not just decoration. It was a declaration of supreme power.
It gave birth to the famous Akan proverb and appellation:
> *"Ahenfo kyinyɛ bida biakyi"* — _Chiefs share the double umbrella_ / Only the supreme king deserves the double-decker.

Nana Akumfi Ameyaw II was a very powerful and feared king. He deposed chiefs who disobeyed him and executed criminals. That's why he earned the name *"Akumfi Agyeman"* — _Slayer of men, conqueror of states_. The umbrella showed that all other chiefs were under him.

*4. From Bonohene to Takyimanhene:*
Originally, the double-decker was *reserved ONLY for the Bonohene*. No other chief was allowed to use it.
When Bono Manso collapsed in 1723, the Bono state moved to Techiman. The Techiman stool became the successor, holding the *Bonokyempem Duaduakwa — the oldest Akan stool*. So the Takyimanhene inherited the exclusive right to the Bidabiakye.

As time went on, the single-decker spread to all Southern Akan states (Asante, Akyem, Fante etc.), but the double-decker remained the Bonohene's symbol. In contemporary times, many paramount chiefs now use it, but it is still the *traditional and spiritual identity of Oseadeeyo Techimanhene*.

*5. Today:*
That is why when you see *His Royal Majesty Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV* under the double-decker with the wooden *Akonnwa bird (hen and chicks) finial* on top, it is a direct link to 1295 AD — he is sitting on the oldest stool, under the oldest umbrella, as *Akan Piesie (Firstborn of all Akans)*.

Is there any investment more valuable than investing in the youth who have selflessly dedicated their lives to championing the progress of our beloved Bono?
No one pays these young men and women for the sacrifices they make. Yet, day and night, they continue to work tirelessly for a cause greater than themselves — the future of Bono.
The impact of their efforts is undeniable and should never be overlooked by any generation of the Bono people. Their contributions have touched every sphere of society: political, economic, social, and most importantly, our cultural identity and heritage.
If we truly desire to raise more patriots and nation-builders, shouldn't we encourage, support, and publicly acknowledge those already leading the way?
Many of these young people carry enormous risks and emotional burdens in their pursuit of a united and developed Bono. The stress, sacrifices, and trauma they endure cannot be measured or repaid with money.
To our political and traditional leaders, we ask a sincere question: Have you genuinely factored these young people into your plans? Do you truly have Bono at heart?
What concrete steps are being taken to support Bono's unification agenda, knowing very well that our development is deeply rooted in our unity?
Every position of leadership, whether political or traditional, is like an open book. Your actions are the pen writing today's story, and one day, history will read every chapter without bias.
Do not hesitate to support Bono and those who labour without expecting salaries or personal rewards. They are planting seeds whose fruits future generations will enjoy.
Many may not understand this message today, but time has a way of revealing truth. Posterity will judge our actions and reward everyone accordingly. The choices we make now will determine whether future generations inherit a divided Bono or a united, prosperous one.
The future of Bono is not a responsibility for a few; it is a duty for all.

National House of Chiefs Apologizes to Suma Manhene Following Kumasi Incident

SUNYANI — The National House of Chiefs has officially dispatched a high-powered delegation to the Bono Regional House of Chiefs to convey its sincere apologies to Odeneho Dr. Afram Brempong II following a recent verbal attack against him in Kumasi.
The gesture comes in response to an unfortunate incident that occurred while the Suma Manhene was traveling through Kumasi to attend a scheduled meeting of the National House of Chiefs. Recognizing the seriousness of the matter and its potential implications for harmony within Ghana's traditional leadership structure, the National House of Chiefs acted swiftly to promote reconciliation and restore mutual respect among traditional authorities.
Delegation for Peace and Unity

The delegation comprised distinguished traditional leaders, including:

Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi

Led by Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi, the delegation was warmly received in Sunyani by the Standing Committee of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.
