Ga Mantse Calls for Halt to Planned Igbo Yam Festival in Accra

The Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has directed the suspension of the Yam Festival planned by Igbo leader in Ghana, HRM Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu.

The event, scheduled for Sunday, 21st September 2025, in Accra, has raised concerns from the Ga Traditional Council.

In a press release, the Council said the celebration defied an earlier caution to the Igbo “chief” to refrain from holding traditional and cultural festivities under the guise of importing Igbo customs into the Ga State. The statement warned that such activities could spark tension and disturb peace and security in the region.
