MoGCSP Trains Newly Constituted Domestic Violence Management Board
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), through the Domestic Violence Secretariat, has held a two-day orientation and training programme for members of the newly constituted Domestic Violence Management Board.
The initiative was designed to strengthen the capacity of the Board to provide oversight and strategic direction in line with the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732). It also served as a platform for members to interact, build teamwork, and sharpen delivery of their mandate.
Addressing the participants, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, congratulated the members on their appointment and underscored the urgency of tackling domestic violence, which she described as a major national concern.
Dr. Lartey outlined the statutory responsibilities of the Board and highlighted several government-led interventions under the administration of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama.
These include the establishment of 16 regional shelters with comprehensive services for survivors, the introduction of a Survivors Care Kit offering free legal and medical support, the ratification of ILO Convention 190, the launch of the national “Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence and Sexual Harassment” campaign, and the elevation of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to a Directorate.
The Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Madam Malonin Asibi, briefed the Board on the Secretariat’s mandate and called for closer collaboration to ensure effective policy implementation.
Sessions also covered the role of the Board, strategies for effective governance, the Secretariat’s 2025 work plan, and policy commitments in the government’s Reset Manifesto.
The Chairperson of the Board facilitated discussions on emerging trends in gender-based violence and guided members in drafting an initial work and action plan.
The Minister pledged the Ministry’s continuous support, including periodic engagements with the Board, and urged members to demonstrate commitment to their duties in advancing the fight against domestic violence.
