Retired Colonel Clarifies Circumstances Surrounding Helicopter Crash

Retired military officer and security analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye, has called for a contextual understanding of the recent military helicopter crash, urging the public to base their opinions on verified facts rather than speculation.

Speaking on a sister TV station, Colonel Aboagye compared the current incident to the Atiwa crash, which took two to three days before remains were recovered, stressing that such operational realities should shape public assessment of the Ghana Armed Forces’ response.

He revealed that tools, including artificial intelligence and online mapping systems, can be used to plot the aircraft’s flight path, confirming that the helicopter crashed at 725 feet above mean sea level, just three minutes from its intended landing site at Oahu, and not at 3,000 feet as some reports suggested.

Explaining that military helicopters operate under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), relying on sight rather than instruments like commercial aircraft, Colonel Aboagye emphasised that the crash occurred within normal flight parameters and did not involve a sudden loss of height. He urged calm, noting that the aviation industry must approach the matter with factual accuracy.
