Tip #2 for beginners
Let’s talk about shutter speed to make sure you never have a blurry photo again… tomorrow I will cover F/ Stop .. then ISO the next day

This is a 100% about shutter speed only and your lens of choice

Now I’m sure if I asked everyone how many was taught lower the shutter more light let in.. everyone hand would go up .. this is a true statement.. but I find it to be the most stupid way to explain shutter speed .. I was taught that way myself.. just to find some days I come home with blurry photo’s because I would depend on that to let light in and my shutter would be open to long for hand held .. causing camera shake from my hands .. or the person I was aiming at moved and caused blur as well …

This is because I’m trying to let enough light in to get the shot by depending on the shutter to do that…so let’s change our thinking shutter speed

Think shutter does nothing but freeze action from here on out… get it out of your head it’s it’s to let in more light to expose the photo better..

we want perfectly sharp photos with shutter .. we do not want perfectly exposed blurry photos with shutter … shutter is for sharpness and zero blur .. get it out your head it’s to let in more light

This method I’m going to explain works with any lens perfectly that I live by and use… once I started doing this…I’ve never ever needed a tripod again for any of the work I do .. I hand hold everything including my low light work .. and still have perfectly sharp photos every time

Only thing that caused blur is hand movements or subject moved

So let’s fix the problem of hand movements first

If you have a 50mm lens .. take that 50mm and double that number 50+50 = 100
So now set your shutter to 100
Now you can safely hold a 50mm steady and photograph any subject that does not move without the need of a tripod.. hand movement is solved .. no more blurry photos with a 50mm

Well what if you have a 70 -200mm lens?
Much heavier lens harder to hold
Take the highest number being 200 and double it put your shutter at 400 now you solved hand movement problems with the 70/200 lens
Again no tripod needed

If you have a 400mm very heavy lens
Put the shutter at 800 and now you can hand hold that as well no tripod needed

I’m sure you see my now how to freeze a sharp photo for any lens

This works perfectly while aiming at anything that don’t move ..

Well now that we fixed hand blur
We now have to fix movement of objects
Trees blowing in the wind .. flag’s blowing, people waving ect.

Just double everything again and fix that issue
So if we have a shutter of 100 for the 50mm to fix hand shake .. let’s double the 100 shutter to 200 to freeze objects moving

A 200mm 400 shutter stops hand movement so double that put the shutter to 800 now you stopped not only hand movement but subject as well .. I live by this on everything shoot I do and I have never come home with a blurry photo

Some will say but my photos are dark with these settings for shutter.. yup but they are tack sharp that’s the priority

We still have F/stop and ISO to cover to get the light needed … shutter is to freeze perfectly sharp action only
