On 31st July, we had the privilege of attending the Gamathon 2025 Industry Dinner hosted at MEST Africa(MEST Africa) – an evening filled with passionate conversations surrounding the gaming and creative industry across Africa.
Thank you to AfricaComicade(Africacomicade) for pooling together like-minded professionals to share insights, connect and explore beneficial collaborations.
Discussions centered on the opportunities ahead - Africa's fast growing youth population, the rising mobile pe*******on and internet access as well as an untapped pool of creative talent waiting to be harnessed, the opportunity is endless. Unfortunately, the challenges are a hindrance stakeholders are working to overcome. From high distribution barriers and low disposable incomes to difficulty in accessing funds, the future of gaming in Africa seems to be under threat.
It's time for a shift - from isolated creative pockets to grassroot community development; from importing narratives to telling our own African stories.
Africa's youth-driven market is not just the future; it's the solution to a long held problem on the continent. Here's to changing the narrative and propelling the African creative industry forward.
