"The Unannounced Return"
David had been away on a three-week business trip to Dubai. The deal had closed early, and instead of staying for the celebratory dinner, he decided to surprise his wife, Sophia, by flying back to Accra a day ahead of schedule.
He quietly unlocked the front door of their East Legon home at 11:47 PM, smiling to himself as he imagined her reaction. He pictured her jumping into his arms, that familiar warm laugh, the way she always said "You're early!" while pretending to be annoyed.
But as he pushed open the bedroom door, the smile froze on his face.
There they were.
His wife, Sophia β her fiery red hair tousled against the pillow β sitting up in shock, clutching the white sheet to her chest. Beside her, a completely bald, muscular man he had never seen before, eyes wide with panic, his hand still resting possessively on her waist.
The air in the room turned to ice.
David stood frozen in the doorway, briefcase still in his left hand, his tailored black suit slightly rumpled from the long flight. His heart hammered so loudly he could hear it in his ears. The three of them remained suspended in that horrible moment β the husband, the wife, and the stranger β like characters in a nightmare that had suddenly become real.
Sophia's mouth opened, but no words came out. The bald man looked like he was calculating how fast he could reach the window.
Davidβs mind raced through a thousand thoughts in seconds:
The late-night βgirls' nightsβ that had become more frequent.
The sudden new interest in the gym.
The way sheβd been distant for months.
Now it all made brutal sense.
He dropped the briefcase. It hit the floor with a heavy thud.
The choice was now his.
What would YOU do in this situation?
A. Walk away silently and never come back.
B. Grab the gun you keep in the safe.
C. Let pure rage take over.
D. Pick up the knife from the kitchen counter on your way in.
The next few seconds would define the rest of his life... and possibly someone else's.
