Liverpool have appointed Jonathan Power as their new club doctor and he will join the first team on their training camp in Dubai next month.

Power, who hails from West Derby in Liverpool, previously worked with the Football Association for nine years between 2012 and 2021, where he was the England men’s team performance medicine doctor.

Liverpool have been searching for a new appointment after the departure of Dr Jim Moxon in the summer, and after interviewing a dozen candidates, Power emerged as the unanimous choice to fill the position.

Power will assume full responsibilities when his notice period expires early in 2023. He will take over from Sarah Lindsay, a general practitioner and sports physician at Liverpool, and Bevin McCartan, head of academy medical, who have been filling in since Moxon’s departure. [paul joyce - times]

"Jude’s a guaranteed starter after how he played against Iran. His energy, his ability on the ball and his calmness, not to mention his threat going forward. He's a big lad for a 19-year-old.

"His maturity is phenomenal considering his age and it’s fantastic to see him playing the way he is. I can’t see anyone taking him out of the team at this moment in time. I think Liverpool could do with freshening up the midfield with a bit more energy.

"Jude Bellingham is 100% the first choice in my eyes. He can play in every single position in midfield. So someone like that would be ideal because that energy he would bring is exactly what Liverpool have been missing at times this season. That’s what we actually need.
