Protocols arrangements must be stopped; DVLA boss.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has called for discipline and transparency in road safety enforcement, saying there should be “no protocols” to bypass the system when it comes to saving lives on Ghana’s roads.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Kotey addressed widespread concerns about DVLA operations, particularly roadside checks, infractions, and the imposition of delinquency fees.

He acknowledged that the authority faces public mistrust and admitted that there is a negative public perception that must be tackled head-on.

“We also realise that the public has this stereotype and misconception about DVLA. They feel we’re corrupt, we’re thieves, and I think that things must change,” he said.

Mr Kotey stressed that efforts to enforce traffic laws are not targeted at inconveniencing motorists but are meant to protect lives.

He revealed that he often receives phone calls from friends complaining about being stopped by DVLA officers.

“Sometimes they bring people to the office, and I don’t want to mingle with what happens over there. It’s their work that is being done. My friends call me and say, ‘your boys have arrested me; your boys are this and that’, and I say, 'My brother, it is your life I am trying to save. Let’s do what is right',” he explained.

He emphasised the need for fairness and consistency in the licensing process, warning that bending rules to favour certain individuals could lead to fatal consequences.

“At DVLA, we should do away with protocols. I encouraged the health sector to do the same. Because when I give you a licence and you don’t know how to drive, it is just like giving a gun to an armed robber to protect the community. You are going to have issues on the road,” he said.

He insisted that all drivers must meet the right standards, adding that faulty vehicles and unqualified drivers pose serious threats to public safety.

“When your car suspension is not good, your tyres are not good; you don’t expect me to tell my workers to let you go. I will tell them to encourage you to go and do what is right,” he added.

Mr Kotey urged Ghanaians to be truthful and uphold basic standards of right and wrong.

“We have to be frank with Ghana. We can’t defend everything. What is not right is not right; what is right is right" said Mr. Kotey.

SISSALA ZONE DIVISION III LEAGUE
MATCH DAY FIVE (5)

With an intrigue first round of matches being played during the midweek, it was so exciting to see yet another quality display of football from the competing teams.
Taffiasi United Fc lock horns with the struggling Sakai Fc with just a win over the weekend and was looking to make it two wins in a row but the host have a different ideas as they manage to win a lone goal to pick up all the three points leaving Sakai Fc hopes of qualification to Division II almost a tall ladder 🪜 now for them.

A Sissala West derby was next on Wednesday morning as Jeffisi United came up against Gwollu Ultimate Soccer Stars. A brace from Razak Mohammed ⚽️⚽️ of Gwollu Ultimate in the second half condemned Jeffisi United to remain in the bottom of the table so far.

The evening match was tagged as the local El-classico as both teams are yet to lose a match so far in the competition. Soccer Babies with three wins and a draw whiles Kulfuo Dreams Sc had two wins and two draws coming to face each other was seem to be very interesting for both coaches. Kulfuo Dreams didn’t take long to in the first half to register their first goal and dominated possession in the midfield. Soccer babies had several chances to equalize but wasted them and allowed Kulfuo Dreams Sc to score another early goal in the second half making it two goals. The game entertained fans who came around to watch as both teams played quality football but it was just unfortunate for soccer Babies to get a point in the match.

Kulfuo Dreams top the table with a vital point above Soccer Babies with Taffiasi United Fc keenly monitoring them and looking to pull surprises in the second round which will begin on 10th may, 2024.

The break could have saved Sakai Fc to put themselves together to still believe of making it up there to compete, but as things stand now it is a straight competition among Kulfuo Dreams, Soccer Babies and Taffiasi United to get promotion to Division II.

How will you rate the performance of Division III matches so far out of 10?

How do you see officiating of the games so far?

Let’s come together and build Sissala football.

A joint military operation involving troops from Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger has successfully killed a renowned Islamic State (IS) commander, Abu Huzeifa, who had a $5 million US bounty on his head. The operation took place in the tri-border region between the three Sahel countries, specifically in the Malian region of Menaka. Huzeifa, a member of the Islamic State’s Sahel Province affiliate, was responsible for several high-profile militant attacks, including one in 2017 that resulted in the deaths of four US soldiers and multiple Nigerien troops.

SISSALA ZONE DIVISION III LEAGUE
MATCH DAY FOUR (4)

The midweek matches mostly played in the morning was a disadvantage to most fans as they were busy at their work places.
KULFUO Dreams Sc came up against Jeffisi United Fc on Tuesday morning and the match ended a two two draw game with a brilliant performance from Yelgia Jalilu getting a brace ⚽️⚽️ which ensured them getting a point and was the MVP of the match.
Wednesday morning saw a winless team of Sakai Fc coming up against a yet to be defeated Soccer Babies. Sakai Fc had early chances in the game to score but was very wasteful upfront and allowing the league leaders to come into the game in the second half to score the only goal which eventually was the match winner for Soccer Babies.
The evening match was however tricky because of the points each of them had going into the encounter. TAFFIASI United Fc had a red card in the first half but managed to win against Gwollu Ultimate Soccer Stars by two goals to one ☝️.

Sakai Fc remains the only team without a point in the league so far while’s Soccer Babies are yet to concede a goal in the league after winning all three matches played.

The weekend matches will certainly play a vital role in the league and can Sakai Fc turns their horror start of the season around?

Please send your comments on the Division III games so far and suggestions going forward.

SISSALA ZONE DIVISION III LEAGUE
MATCH DAY TWO

The usual Alhaji Baba PELLE Sports field was the center of excitement for football loving fans as the return of Division III match day 2.
Gwollu Ultimate Soccer Stars welcomed Sakai Fc on Friday evening for what will be a first win for either teams. A miscommunication from the defender and goalkeeper of Sakai Fc led to the first goal scored by Gwollu Ultimate attacker in a simple header free in the empty net. Sakai Fc later in the game around the 90minute mark had a penalty to level the scores but was saved by the goalkeeper denying Sakai Fc a draw in the match.

Saturday was full of joy from fans near and far especially the away teams merely because their home is close to the match venue. This however nearly paid of even though KULFUO Dreams Sc were favorites going into the match against TAFFIASI United because of their brilliant performance in their opening match. They were however taken by surprise as TAFFIASI United told the lead in the early minutes of the game by Gomina Lawas. They should have finished the game in the first 45 minutes of the game as they were clear goal scoring opportunities to condemn KULFUO Dreams without thinking of coming back. The wasteful nature of TAFFIASI United in front of goal caused them in the second half as KULFUO Dreams started to come into the game and a sole effort by Imani and a simple pass to ‘Ambelle’ leveled the scores. KULFUO Dreams really have to work hard to end a point on that day.

Jeffisi United played home to In form Soccer Babies as they won their opening match with a clean sheet and therefore obvious that it will take extra hardwork to get a point from them. Their dominance in their previous game was a play against Jeffisi United as within the first 20mins you could see the game was over and far from them to come back as they were two goals down from Junior and Satare Ibrahim. The game ended without Soccer babies conceding a goal and the only team to win their first two opening matches.

The questions to ask from match day two are
1. Will soccer Babies be able to continue with this performance throughout?
2. Can Sakai Fc turn things around and be in the competition?
3. Can the favorites (KULFUO DREAMS) go toe to toe with Soccer Babies?

It is early days yet but midweek matches could start to answer some of these questions.

MATCH DAY THREE

Tuesday morning
KULFUO Dreams vs Jeffisi United

Wednesday morning
Sakai Fc vs Soccer Babies

Wednesday evening
TAFFIASI United vs Gwollu Ultimate
