FOGA to Support BECE Graduates with School Materials

In a bid to promote education and support young learners transitioning into Senior High Schools, FOGA, under the leadership of Desdeddy Nukunu, is set to present school materials to selected BECE graduates in Aflao.

The event, which will take place on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 9:00 AM in Aflao, will provide essential educational resources such as trunks, mattresses, chop boxes, and other learning materials to beneficiaries. These items are expected to ease the financial burden on parents and equip the students as they prepare to further their education.

Mr. Desdeddy Nukunu emphasized that this initiative is part of FOGA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation by ensuring that no child is left behind due to lack of basic educational needs. He noted that education remains the most sustainable investment in the future of every community, and supporting BECE graduates at this crucial stage is a step toward building a more empowered society.

The gesture has been warmly received by parents, teachers, and community members, who view it as a timely intervention that will not only motivate the students but also encourage others to take their studies seriously.

For further details about the program, interested persons may contact 0246683207.

This presentation reaffirms FOGA’s mission to contribute to human development and to serve as a beacon of hope for students and families in the Aflao community and beyond.

The Dzawuwu Rituals form an essential aspect of the Te Za celebrations. This sacred observance involves dedicating the first harvest of yams to the gods, ancestors, sacred stools, and deities. The very first meal from the fresh yams, known as “bakabake” (mashed yam), is prepared in two forms—one with palm oil and the other without—and offered before anyone is allowed to eat from the new crop. These rites are carried out in stool houses, shrines, and family homes.

As part of the tradition, chiefs and traditional leaders are the first to be served with bakabake. Prayers of thanksgiving are offered to the gods for a fruitful harvest, alongside petitions for continued blessings and protection from misfortune.

It is a serious taboo to consume the new yam before the completion of these sacred rituals.
