This Is a Call to Duty, Not Praise - Yendi’s New MCE Sets Bold Agenda for Change
A new chapter in Yendi's governance began on April 15, 2025, as Hon. Sugri Muniru was overwhelmingly confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) by the Assembly members of the Yendi Municipality.
Speaking moments after his confirmation, Hon. Muniru described the endorsement not as a personal accolade but as a solemn responsibility. “This is not a vote of confidence, it is a call to duty,” he declared. His message struck a tone of humility and determination, setting the stage for a tenure focused on results over recognition.
Hon. Muniru wasted no time outlining his immediate priorities, pledging to confront the longstanding water crisis that has affected households and economic activity across the municipality. “I can see in my vision, the Yendi water crisis come to an end " he said.
But the new MCE’s vision goes beyond water. He spoke of transforming Yendi into a model municipality - one marked by strong infrastructure, reliable electricity, and youth-centered development programs. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration with the Assembly members to drive progress in these key areas.
Connecting communities with electricity, road network and empowering the Youth to improve their livelihoods.
Addressing the people directly, Muniru stressed that his leadership would be inclusive and community-focused. “This position isn’t for Muniru. It is for all of us"
His speech drew applause from Assembly members and residents who attended the ceremony, many of whom expressed optimism about the direction he promised to take.
As Hon. Muniru officially begins his tenure, expectations are high—but so is the momentum. The people of Yendi will now be watching closely to see how this “call to duty” translates into tangible progress.
