“The Pain Feels Real Now” - NAPO Breaks Silence as Bodies of Helicopter Crash Victims Land in Accra
Grief has deepened across Ghana following the arrival of the bodies of the eight top government officials who tragically lost their lives in yesterday’s helicopter crash at Adansi. Their remains were flown to Accra this morning, greeted by tearful loved ones, dignitaries, and a nation still reeling from one of the darkest days in recent memory.
Among the mourners was Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, the former Energy Minister and Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt tribute.
“The arrival of the bodies of our departed brothers in Accra makes the weight of this national tragedy even more real. In these quiet, heavy moments, we are reminded of the grave loss Ghana has suffered,” NAPO said.
The helicopter, carrying the Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment Minister, Dr. Murtala Mohammed, and six other senior state officials, crashed en route from Accra to Obuasi while on official duty. All eight on board perished in the tragic incident that has shocked the nation.
The emotional weight of the moment was visible at the Kotoka Air Force Base, where a brief ceremony was held to honour the fallen. Military officials stood in solemn attention as the caskets, draped in Ghana’s flag, were offloaded in a quiet, tear-streaked procession.
NAPO, visibly shaken, called on Ghanaians to come together in national mourning.
“Let us, as one people, stand together and hold each other up through this time of deep mourning and reflection,” he urged.
He also extended sympathy to the grieving families, calling for unity and compassion.
“And as we grieve, may we remember to keep the eight bereaved families in our thoughts and prayers, asking for strength, comfort, and healing in the days ahead,” he added.
