According to Chris Sutton, Antonio Conte, the manager of Tottenham, should step down from his position at the club right away.⚪️🔵
Ex-Blackburn striker Chris Sutton has stated that if Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is unwilling to commit his future to Spurs, then he should leave the club immediately. Currently, Conte's contract expires at the end of the season, and Tottenham has been knocked out of all cup competitions, with a fourth-place standing in the Premier League.
During BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club, Sutton commented that it would be better for all parties concerned if Conte were to depart now. He expressed confusion over what is happening at Spurs and stated that Conte must choose whether he is willing to sign up for another year or two. If he is not, then Tottenham is better off making a change now to progress. Sutton added that Spurs have regressed from last season and have been inconsistent.
Conte guided Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2016-17 and the FA Cup the following season before he was sacked. After winning Serie A with Inter Milan in 2020-21, he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham in November 2021 and took them to fourth and Champions League qualification.
Despite this, Tottenham lost to Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Carabao Cup and lost in the FA Cup fifth round to Championship side Sheffield United earlier this month, fielding an under-strength side. Last week, they were beaten 1-0 on aggregate over two legs by AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Sutton criticized Tottenham's performance, especially during the Milan game, and stated that Conte needs to win trophies to meet Tottenham fans' hopes for the brand of football they want to see. Antonio Conte
