Tension flared during the final royal funeral rites of the late Asafoiatse Tawiah Omunuku III at Nungua.

The disturbance occurred at the moment when paramount Asafoiatsemei from the various clans (We) were being lifted in palanquins to pay their last respects, in line with Nungua tradition. Customarily, each clan is represented by only one paramount Asafoiatse, who alone is permitted to mount the palanquin during such ceremonies.

However, at this event, two Asafoiatsemei from Nii Odaiteitse We were lifted onto palanquins. This action was challenged by the Asafoiatsemei from the Amanfa quarter, who stopped the procession and insisted that tradition be strictly observed.

The disagreement quickly escalated into a confrontation, resulting in brief violence and disruption of the rites.
Calm was later restored through the intervention of some elders and Asafoiatsemei, allowing the funeral rites (amanprobi) to continue.
