Burkina-Ghana cooperation: a new momentum to boost development
(Accra, 8th January 2025). Newly inaugurated, President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani MAHAMA granted a hearing, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, to the President of Faso, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ.
During the hearing, the two Heads of State expressed their willingness to work to strengthen bilateral cooperation and set footsteps for the development of their countries. In this perspective, Presidents TRAORÉ and MAHAMA have raised major issues relating to strategic sectors to boost the economy of the two states.
This one-on-one show allowed the President of Ghana to translate his admiration to Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ for participating in his inauguration. "I was honoured that he left his busy schedule to join us (... ) I am glad my brother was able to make the trip to support us," John Dramani MAHAMA stressed.
The President of Ghana has expressed solidarity with the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ over the terrorist attacks, and promised to work with him to bring peace to Burkina Faso, “because without peace, there cannot be development.”
Beyond the historical and trade links that bind the people of Burkinabe and the people of Ghana, Ghana's new president said: "I think we are at the beginning of a new relationship of cooperation between our countries."
In this view, President John Dramani MAHAMA promised the President of Faso a state visit to Ouagadougou in the coming days.
Burkina Faso and Ghana have signed several agreements as part of bilateral cooperation. These are, among other things, the cooperation agreement on the implementation of a railway interconnection, memorandums of understanding in the fields of safety, sport and leisure and education.
