President John Dramani Mahama is calling for countries that were involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade and colonization of Africa to pay compensation to Africa.
The trans-Atlantic slave trade a period of history where millions of Africans were forcibly taken from their homes and sold into slavery in the Americas and other parts of the world. It was a brutal system that lasted for centuries, causing immense suffering, displacement, and loss of life.
He believes that these historical injustices have had a lasting impact on Africa's dignity, identity, and development. He wants to restore Africa's dignity and promote fairness and justice.
Speaking in his capacity as the African Union (AU) Champion for Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent, President Mahama delivered his call during the seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the AU in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
