E/R: Abuakwa North NCCE Marks Chocolate Day with Moral Education and Health Awareness at St. Paul’s Technical School
The Abuakwa North Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), led by Mrs. Beatrice N. Opoku Budu, has organized the 5th edition of its annual Chocolate Day celebration at St. Paul’s Technical School in Akyem Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region. The event, held on 6th February 2026, formed part of activities ahead of the national Chocolate Day marked on 14th February each year.
In an interview with the press, Mrs. Opoku Budu explained that the initiative is aimed at promoting healthy living among students by encouraging the consumption of chocolate drinks as a healthier alternative to alcoholism. She added that the programme also focused on addressing issues of gross indecency and promoting moral discipline among the youth.
As part of the event, two drama performances were staged for the students. One depicted the true story of St. Valentine, while the other addressed the subject of indecent behaviour among students, both intended to reshape perceptions about Valentine’s Day and promote positive values.
Mrs. Opoku Budu expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who supported the programme, particularly the Cocoa Research Institute at Akyem Tafo for supplying chocolate drinks for the students.
The well-attended event was graced by the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency and former Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, as the Special Guest of Honour. In her address, she emphasized the importance of punctuality and regular school attendance as key pillars for academic success. She also commended the NCCE for its consistency in organizing impactful educational programmes for students.
Mr. Akoto George Boakye represented the Abuakwa North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Charles Yeboah Darko, while Mr. Ntim Krofa represented the Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Grace Adza-Wude. Both representatives praised the NCCE for organizing an educational and impactful programme and encouraged the Commission to sustain the initiative.
Some students who spoke to the media expressed excitement about the programme, noting that it had helped correct the misconception that Valentine’s Day is associated with immoral activities. They thanked the NCCE for the enlightening experience.
