Ghana's inflation rate has continued its downward trend, dipping to 20.4% in August 2024 from 20.9% in July, marking the sixth straight month of decline since March's 25.8% peak. According to Government Statistician Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim, the decrease is largely driven by a slowdown in food inflation, which eased to 19.1% in August, whereas non-food inflation edged up to 21.5%. This sustained decline suggests a positive shift in the country's inflation trajectory.

CAF withdraws approval for Baba Yara Stadium

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has withdrawn its approval for Ghana's Baba Yara Stadium due to technical issues, including a substandard playing field. This decision follows observations during the Ghana vs. Angola AFCON qualifier on September 5th, 2024. CAF identified problems such as uneven surfaces, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover. With no other CAF-approved stadiums in Ghana, the Ghana Football Association must select an alternative venue outside Ghana for upcoming matches. CAF offers support to upgrade the stadium to meet international standards, but the cost will be borne by the GFA.
