From Ghana Police Service: POLICE FOIL ROBBERY IN ACCRA

The Ghana Police Service has foiled a planned robbery in Accra following an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters in Accra.

The intelligence-led operation, carried out on Monday, 15th July 2025, followed credible intelligence that five armed men were lodging at a hotel in Labadi and planning to rob a foreign national at Cantonments. While en route to their target location in a Toyota Yaris vehicle, the suspects, detecting police surveillance, opened fire on the police team shooting one of our officers in the process.

The officers returned fire, injuring two of the suspects who were later pronounced dead at the Police Hospital.

The injured officer, who sustained gunshot wounds to his legs and underarm, is on admission, receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.

Two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other items were retrieved from the scene.

A manhunt is underway to arrest the remaining three suspects currently on the run.

Parliament removes Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin from Ghana's delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament.

Ghana Parliament has approved a reconstitution of Ghana’s delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, replacing Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin with Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei.

Afenyo-Markin, who also served as Third Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, is expected to be succeeded in that role by Deputy Majority Leader George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan.

Ricketts-Hagan currently leads Ghana’s delegation to the West African legislative body.

The reshuffle has drawn criticism, particularly from the Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, who accused the Majority Caucus of acting unilaterally and failing to consult the Minority on the changes.

The Minority caucus in Parliament is demanding the immediate reversal of President John Mahama's directive to the Lands Commission to halt all processing of State lands.
