EN CHIEFS SWORN INTO OFFICE BY KUSAUG TRADITIONAL COUNCIL.

The Kusaug Traditional Council has officially sworn in ten chiefs who were recently enskinned by the Zug-Raan, Bawku Naba, during a ceremony held at the Bawku Naba's Palace on Thursday. The swearing were done by Upper East Regional presiding Judge, Justice Pascal Ernest Gamadzei.
The chiefs sworn into office are the Tempane Naba, Binaba Naba, Winaba Naba, Tansia Naba, Denugu Naba, Nyoru Naba, Kulugu Naba, Yarigu Naba, Nikong Naba, and Bazua Naba.
The ceremony also marked a significant milestone for the Tansia Naba and Denugu Naba, whose skins have been elevated to divisional status within the Kusaug Traditional Area. The elevation recognizes the growing importance of the two traditional areas and enhances their roles in the traditional governance structure of Kusaug.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Kusaug Traditional Council following the chiefs' enskinment by the Zug-Raan, Bawku Naba. Traditional leaders, elders, opinion leaders, and community members attended the event to witness the formal induction of the chiefs into office.
Addressing the newly sworn-in chiefs, the Zug-Raan, Bawku Naba, urged them to be hardworking, dedicated, and committed to the welfare of their people. He advised them to work closely with community members and other stakeholders to promote peace, unity, and development in their respective communities.
He noted that chiefs play a vital role in community development and conflict resolution and therefore must lead with integrity, humility, and a strong sense of responsibility.
The ceremony, held at the Zug-Raan's Palace in Bawku, forms part of efforts to strengthen traditional leadership and governance across the Kusaug Traditional Area.
Residents and well-wishers expressed confidence that the newly sworn-in chiefs, particularly the newly elevated divisional chiefs of Tansia and Denugu, would contribute significantly to the progress and development of their communities.

Tanga Assembly Member Leads Relief Efforts for Windstorm Victims, Appeals for More Support.

The Assembly Member for the Tanga Electoral Area, Hon. Ben Agholisi Avokba, has taken swift action to support residents affected by a devastating windstorm that recently destroyed more than 80 homes within his electoral area.

In response to the disaster, Hon. Avokba donated roofing materials, including zinc sheets and timber, to over 30 affected households to assist families in rebuilding damaged roofs and securing safe shelter.

In an interview on Zebs FM’s Community Development Program, Hon. Avokba described the situation as critical and appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), philanthropists, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and other well-meaning individuals to support the affected families.

“The storm has left many families exposed and struggling. He appeal to all well-meaning Ghanaians and organizations to come to the aid of his people and beyond,” he stated.

The windstorm caused extensive destruction across the Tanga Electoral Area and Timonde leaving many homes without roofs and exposing residents to harsh weather conditions as the rainy season continues.

Hon. Avokba reaffirmed his commitment to standing with his people throughout the recovery process, assuring residents that efforts would continue to ensure no affected family is left without shelter during this difficult period.

Severe Windstorm Destroys 150 Houses in Bawku West, Affecting 500 Households.

A severe windstorm has destroyed about 150 houses and affected more than 500 households in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region, according to the District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Mbugre Ebenezer Sunday.

Speaking on the Zebs Community Development Programme on May 14, 2026, Mr. Mbugre disclosed that the rainstorm caused extensive destruction in several communities across the district.

He explained that many of the affected buildings were block houses, with roofs ripped off and walls collapsing as a result of the strong winds. According to him, the level of destruction raises concerns about the quality of some building structures in the area.

“The sad part is that most of the block houses were the ones badly affected. The way some of these buildings are constructed and roofed is not suitable for our environment,” he stated.

Mr. Mbugre therefore called on residents and property owners to adopt stronger and more durable building and roofing methods to help reduce the impact of future storms.

He also encouraged massive tree planting within the Zebilla Constituency, stressing that trees can serve as natural windbreaks and help minimize damage during heavy storms and strong winds.

Meanwhile, NADMO officials say assessment of the affected communities is ongoing, while efforts are being made to provide support and relief to affected households.

Jarvis Avoka writes

GOD BLESS NANA TEA

On 9th May 2024, while working with the Ghana Education Service in the Bawku West District, I visited Gundago Primary School with a team of officers to carry out a Community Score Card activity.

As soon as we arrived, something caught my attention—thirteen-year-old Alahiri Aladago, a class five learner and the school’s office girl. She stood out, neatly dressed, but there was a striking feature: she had eight toes on her right leg. I was immediately curious.

On the second day of our visit, I asked to meet her parents. The headteacher kindly obliged and took me to her home. Her mother was deeply worried about the growing stigma her daughter faced—Alahiri couldn’t wear covered shoes and was constantly mocked by her peers. Her mother also regretted ignoring the doctor’s advice to return to Bawku Hospital a month after Alahiri was born, when the condition could have been corrected.

I reached out to some reputable doctors to explore the possibility of corrective surgery for Alahiri. I soon learned it was possible—but at a fortune. So I began scouting for help.

Long story short, I contacted Nänä Teä on 15th November 2025. He took up the matter, and the surgery was successfully done at the Wenchi Hospital in February 2026—at no cost to the family.

As I make this post, Alahiri is back home and recovering well. She is expected to return to school soon.

May God bless Nänä Teä & his benefactors, and indeed, everyone who spreads love to the vulnerable in our society.

Attached are some pictures taken before and after the surgery.

Glory be to God! 🙏
