Zebs FM Community Development Program Highlights Critical Issue of Deforestation in Tili Forest.
On June 3, 2025, the Zebs FM community development program, "On a Footprint Tour," visited the Tili forest, located in the Bawku Forest District. The team was met with a devastating sight: the entire forest had been ravaged by fire. This annual occurrence has raised concerns among local residents and stakeholders about the lack of proper forest reservation and management.
In an interview with Akologo Atiswin, a local farmer, it was revealed that the recurring bushfires have had a significant impact on the community. "Every year, the forest burns down, and it's very bad," Atiswin said. "We plead with the Forestry Commission to play a key role in ensuring the forest is properly reserved and protected."
Zebs FM spoke with Seidu Adams, Deputy District Manager in charge of the Bawku Forest District. Adams emphasized the vital role the forest plays in the lives of local communities. "The forest provides numerous benefits, including firewood for household use, employment opportunities during timber harvesting, and revenue sharing with stakeholders such as district assemblies and landowners," he explained.
Regarding the prevention of bushfires and deforestation, Adams stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the Forest Service Division, local communities, and stakeholders. "We need to work together to educate the public on the importance of forest conservation and implement effective measures to prevent bushfires and deforestation," he said.
The Zebs FM community development program aims to raise awareness about critical issues affecting local communities and promote sustainable development. The Tili forest visit has highlighted the need for urgent action to protect this vital ecosystem and ensure the well-being of the communities that depend on it.
By working together, we can protect the Tili forest and ensure the long-term benefits it provides to the environment and local communities.
