Today was a very special day as we celebrated the official opening of the Europa Point Lighthouse to the public.

For the past few months, we have been operating under a soft launch, testing the systems we’ve put in place, learning from the day-to-day operation and addressing those inevitable growing pains that come with opening something new.

Seeing the culmination of so much hard work from so many incredible people today was an incredibly proud moment for all of us.

At Wright Tech, it has been a genuine privilege to partner with the Gibraltar Heritage Trust and Trinity House to help make public access to this iconic landmark a reality, not only for Gibraltar’s international visitors but, importantly, for our own local community.

Our contribution to the project has taken many forms, from supporting its development to bringing our experience in developing and operating heritage visitor attractions. It has been a truly collaborative effort, with each partner bringing something different to the table and sharing the same ambition for the site.

What excites us now is what this represents for the future.

We see the lighthouse as more than a standalone attraction. It has the potential to become a linchpin in a much wider vision for heritage at Europa Point, working alongside our friends at the Gibraltar Heritage Trust to connect, interpret and bring to life the remarkable stories and historic sites found across this unique part of Gibraltar.

Today was about celebrating the lighthouse and everyone who has worked so hard to get us here.

Tomorrow, we keep building.

We are often asked what some of our favourite parts of the job are.

one of them is simply learning, discovering a deeper, more personal history behind the stories we want to tell.

But another has to be uncovering the hidden features of the historic spaces we work in. Features that have been forgotten over time, sometimes concealed behind modern installations or older interpretation because previous works simply didn’t consider them an important part of the story.

We see things differently.

Wherever possible, we uncover these features, research them, restore them and interpret them properly giving each one the attention and care it deserves.

Because we don’t look at spaces like these and see dilapidated buildings or forgotten corners of Gibraltar.

We see stories yet to be told.

At Wright Tech, investing in Gibraltar’s heritage means more than restoring historic spaces, it means protecting them for the long term.

That’s why we developed the Tunnel App, our digital archive and conservation management system. It allows us to track the condition, restoration history and maintenance needs of every artefact under our care, alerting our team when attention is required.

The system is being used across the WWII Tunnels, City Under Siege Exhibition and our other heritage spaces, helping our team manage conservation proactively and consistently.

Because when it comes to our history, once it’s gone, it’s gone.

A huge congratulations to The Gibraltar National Museum on the international premiere of The Last Traces of the Neanderthal.

Projects like this are so important in taking Gibraltar’s incredible history and heritage to larger international audiences and highlighting the Rock’s significant contribution to our understanding of human history.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing Gibraltar’s story to the international stage!

🎬 INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE IN GIBRALTAR | The Last Traces of the Neanderthal

The Gibraltar National Museum is proud to host the international premiere of The Last Traces of the Neanderthal on Wednesday 2 September at 6:30pm at The John Mackintosh Hall Theatre, in collaboration with Gibraltar Cultural Services.

🌍 This special red-carpet event will bring together scientists, cultural representatives and invited guests to celebrate a documentary offering a fresh perspective on the lives of the Neanderthals of southern Europe.

Featuring research and discoveries from Gibraltar, particularly the Gorham’s Cave Complex UNESCO World Heritage Site, the film explores the crucial role that the coastal environments of southern Iberia played in Neanderthal survival and challenges long-held assumptions about their way of life.

Through interviews with Gibraltar’s research team and striking visual reconstructions, the documentary highlights the Rock’s internationally significant contribution to our understanding of human evolution.

A royal signature from 1921… ✍️
More than 100 years ago, Hirohito, then Crown Prince of Japan, made his way to Gibraltar during his historic tour of Europe. He would later become Emperor of Japan, reigning from 1926 until 1989.

And here at Gibraltar Lighthouse, he left something rather special behind: his signature in our visitors’ book. 🖋️
Imagine all the stories these pages could tell… from a Crown Prince visiting in 1921 to the visitors climbing our 117 steps today.
