๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿพ World First Aid Day
Knowing what to do in an emergency can make a real difference. โค๏ธ
Although first aid does not replace veterinary care, knowing some basic steps can help you act quickly and safely while getting your pet to the clinic.
๐Ÿšจ What should you do in an emergency?
๐Ÿฉธ If your pet has a wound or is bleeding
Stay calm, prevent your pet from licking the area and, if possible, apply gentle pressure with a clean gauze or cloth.
๐Ÿ”ฅ If you suspect heatstroke
Move your pet to a cool place and start cooling them down gradually. Do not use ice-cold water, and contact your vet as soon as possible.
โ˜ ๏ธ If your pet has eaten something toxic
Do not try to make your pet vomit unless you have been specifically advised to do so by a veterinary professional. If possible, take the packaging or information about the product with you.
๐Ÿ If your pet has been stung or has a reaction
Watch for swelling, difficulty breathing or any sudden change in their condition, and seek veterinary advice promptly.
๐Ÿš— In the event of an accident or emergency
Keep your pet as calm and still as possible and contact your vet or emergency veterinary service.
๐Ÿ“ž Remember: acting quickly is important, but acting correctly is just as important.
Saving your veterinary clinic's number and knowing where to find emergency care can help you be prepared when you need it most. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑโค๏ธ

๐Ÿพ COULD YOUR PET BE IN PAIN?

Our pets are very good at hiding discomfort, and sometimes the signs can be surprisingly subtle.

Changes in behaviour, appetite, movement or daily routines can all be clues that something isn't quite right.

Keep an eye out for:
๐Ÿพ Reluctance to walk, run or jump
๐Ÿพ Hiding or becoming less social
๐Ÿพ Changes in eating habits
๐Ÿพ Excessive licking of a particular area
๐Ÿพ Difficulty getting comfortable
๐Ÿพ Changes in behaviour or mood

If you notice a change that isn't normal for your pet, don't ignore it. Early veterinary assessment can help identify the cause and make sure they get the appropriate care. ๐Ÿฉบ

They can't tell us where it hurts โ€” but they can show us.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’› HAPPY DOG DAY!

Today is all about celebrating our four-legged friends โ€” and making sure they have everything they need to live happy, healthy lives.

A happy dog needs more than cuddles and treats! ๐Ÿพ
Regular exercise, mental stimulation, a balanced diet, preventive care and regular veterinary check-ups all play an important part in their wellbeing.

And sometimes, the simplest things make the biggest difference: a good walk, a favourite toy, a little trainingโ€ฆ or just being by your side. ๐Ÿ•

What makes your dog happiest? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿถ WHEN A WALK LEAVES MORE THAN JUST PAW PRINTSโ€ฆ

This little patient came to us with a grass awn (spike) lodged in the nose.

Grass awns may look harmless, but their shape allows them to move forward through tissues rather than coming back out easily. When they become lodged in the nose, they can cause significant irritation and discomfort.

Signs to look out for include:
๐Ÿพ Sudden or repeated sneezing
๐Ÿพ Pawing at the nose or face
๐Ÿพ Nasal discharge
๐Ÿพ Nosebleeds
๐Ÿพ Sudden discomfort after a walk

In this case, the spike was located and carefully removed under veterinary care. ๐Ÿฉบ

A useful tip: after walks, especially through long grass, check your dogโ€™s coat, paws, ears and nose for grass awns.

If your dog suddenly starts sneezing repeatedly after being outside, donโ€™t ignore it โ€” a grass awn could be the cause.

๐Ÿพ Happy National Dog Walker Appreciation Day!

To everyone who gets up early, goes out in the rain, walks in the heat and somehow manages to convince their dog that it's time to go homeโ€ฆ we appreciate you! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ•

Regular walks are an important part of your dog's physical and mental wellbeing. They provide exercise, stimulation and plenty of opportunities to explore.

So today, give your dog's favourite walking buddy a little extra appreciation. ๐Ÿ’œ

And if your dog could chooseโ€ฆ how long would today's walk be? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿถ Is your dog protected against Kennel Cough?
Kennel Cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease that spreads easily between dogs, especially in places where they gather, such as dog parks, boarding kennels, daycare facilities, grooming salons, training classes, and dog shows.
Common signs include:
๐Ÿพ A dry, persistent cough.
๐Ÿพ Retching or gagging.
๐Ÿพ Sneezing or nasal discharge.
๐Ÿพ In some cases, fever and lethargy.

๐Ÿ’‰ The good news is that it can be prevented.
The Kennel Cough vaccine helps reduce the risk of infection and, if a dog does become infected, it can lessen the severity of the disease.
This vaccine is especially recommended for dogs that:
โœ”๏ธ Regularly interact with other dogs.
โœ”๏ธ Attend daycare or boarding facilities.
โœ”๏ธ Travel or participate in training classes, competitions, or shows.
โœ”๏ธ Live in multi-dog households.

Our veterinary team will be happy to advise you on the most appropriate vaccination schedule for your dogโ€™s lifestyle.
๐Ÿ“… Protect your best friend and help prevent the spread of Kennel Cough.
๐Ÿ“ Contact us today to book an appointment or to learn more about this important vaccine!

๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’› HAPPY CAT MONTH

September is all about celebrating our feline friends and making sure they have everything they need to live happy, healthy lives.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your cat feeling their best:

๐Ÿพ Make time for daily play and mental stimulation.
๐Ÿก Give them safe spaces to hide, rest and observe their surroundings.
๐Ÿชต Provide scratching posts and places to climb.
๐Ÿฅฃ Keep them on a balanced diet and help them maintain a healthy weight.
๐Ÿฉบ And don't forget their regular veterinary check-ups and preventive care.

Remember: a happy cat is not just a well-loved cat โ€” it's a well-cared-for cat. โค๏ธ

How are you keeping your cat happy this month? ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ‘‡
