Starting baby-led weaning can be exciting and nerve-wracking, especially when it comes to safety. Here’s one thing every parent should know:

👉 Gagging is not the same as choking.

Gagging is a natural reflex that helps babies learn how to safely move food around in their mouths. It might look scary, red face, coughing, tongue out, but it’s actually protective.
Choking, on the other hand, is silent and dangerous. That’s when a baby’s airway is blocked and they can’t cry, cough, or breathe.

BLW helps babies develop chewing and swallowing skills early, just make sure you’re offering safe, age-appropriate foods and always supervise meals.

Some still swear by rubbing alcohol to cool down a baby’s fever, but did you know it can actually be dangerous? 🛑 It evaporates fast, yes, but it can also be absorbed through the skin or inhaled, leading to serious health risks. Mamas, always talk to your pediatrician and stay safe.

You’ve probably heard this one: ‘Add rice cereal to help your baby sleep longer.’ But what if that common advice could actually do more harm than good? From choking hazards to increased obesity risk, here’s what the science really says about putting cereal in your baby’s bottle.

This isn’t about mom-shaming, it’s about informed choices. Watch, learn, and always talk to your pediatrician before trying trends that sound harmless but might not be.

Some mornings I wake up and choose chaos, delusion, and delegation 😂

Motherhood is a group project today, and the group chat is in charge.

Major surgery. Seven layers. Weeks of recovery. A C-section is not the easy way out, it’s a real, powerful, and often life-saving way to give birth. So why are we still shaming moms for it? Whether planned or emergency, chosen or necessary, it’s birth. And every mom deserves respect, not judgment.

Moms, have you ever been called “too sensitive” just for setting a boundary? 🙃 Because the moment you say no, it’s suddenly “you’re doing too much.”

A Juneteenth to remember.
Spent the day with my family at the California African American Museum, taking in powerful exhibitions, celebrating Black freedom, and dancing the night away at the KCRW outdoor party. Joy, history, and culture all in one space.

Here’s what I packed in my hospital bag and why it mattered! 💼✨ As a first-time mom, I didn’t want to overpack, but I also didn’t want to be caught off guard. This list made all the difference during my stay and especially once I returned home.

👝 Momma Bag – I used the LitBear 3-piece set from Amazon. It was super practical and gave me extra space for baby essentials.

🩹 Postpartum Recovery Kit – I got the Mama Wish kit which had everything: peri bottle, ice pads, healing foam, wipes. Pro tip: depending on your hospital, you may not use these until you get home.

🧴 Ni**le Cream & Self-Care Set – Highly recommend Frida Mom. It’s a complete set that supports you through those early nursing days.

🩲 Disposable Boy Shorts – Another Frida Mom essential. These were so much better than regular underwear; comfortable and gave great coverage.

🩴 Non-Slip Flip Flops – A must! My hospital didn’t provide any. Non-slip is key to prevent any falls.

🧦 Non-Slip Socks – Warm feet + safety = comfort. You’ll thank yourself later.

🧼 Travel Toiletries – Mini sizes saved space and were so convenient. Just pick a kit that covers all your basics.

👚 Going Home Outfit for Mom – I went with cozy tracksuits; easy to wear and no fuss.

👶🏽 Going Home Outfit for Baby – A non-negotiable!

🛏 Nursing Pajamas – Wore these day and night. Essential for easy breastfeeding access.

🍼 Muslin Blankets & Swaddle – Great for wrapping baby

💧 Large Tumbler – Stay hydrated without constant refills.

🥨 Snacks – I brought a variety of healthy snacks. Saved me during late-night feeds.

📸 Camera – For capturing those first magical moments.

🚗 Car Seat – Technically, this won’t fit in your bag lol but it’s a must have. Hospitals won’t let you leave without one. Safety first!

This list isn’t exhaustive and every mom’s needs will vary. So pack what feels right for you. You are told you’ll feel an instant bond the moment your baby is born. But what if you didn’t? You’re not alone and you’re not broken. Up to 1 in 3 mothers experience delayed bonding. It doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human. Let’s normalize the slow, beautiful process of connection.
