PARLIAMENT PASSES STUDENTS REVOLVING LOAN SCHEME BILL, 2025

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) is pleased to announce that the National Assembly officially passed the Students Revolving Loan Scheme Bill, 2025 on Friday, 11th July 2025.

This landmark legislation represents a major step forward in the Government’s efforts to make tertiary and higher education more accessible and inclusive for all Gambians. Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Adama Barrow, this Scheme aims to remove financial barriers and promote national development through education.

The Students Revolving Loan Scheme will:
• Support students in financing their education and training programmes.
• Advance the national ideals outlined in the Constitution of The Gambia.
• Provide for the payment of tuition and related fees for students enrolled in accredited post-secondary, tertiary, and higher education institutions.
• Offer funding for academic research and learning across registered institutions and accredited programmes within The Gambia.

With the passage of this Bill, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to expanding opportunities for all students, strengthening the national education system, and investing in the future of Gambian youth.

H.E. President Adama Barrow has today laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Deep Sea Port in Sanyang.

The groundbreaking infrastructure will increase The Gambia’s capacity to trade and create numerous jobs across various capacities.

The Barrow administration is actively investing in vital infrastructure as part of a broader strategy for sustainable economic growth and improving the lives and livelihoods of Gambians.

The Gambia Ranked 4th Most Peaceful Country in Africa

The Institute for Economics and Peace, an internationally renowned think tank, has ranked The Gambia as the fourth most peaceful country in Africa, according to its 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI).

This comprehensive assessment also ranks The Gambia 55th globally out of 163 countries. The ranking is based on 23 critical indicators, including safety levels, conflict intensity, and militarisation rates.

This GPI ranking reflects The Gambia's relative stability and peacefulness within the continent, and our collective commitment to democracy, dialogue, and coexistence.

It also reaffirms the vision of the Barrow government to build a stable and inclusive society where every Gambian, regardless of background or belief, feels safe, respected, and empowered.

President Barrow to attend the 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Heads of State in Abuja.

The Office of the President wishes to inform the public that His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, will attend the 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja, Nigeria on Sunday, 22nd June 2025.

The President will depart Banjul International Airport on Saturday, 21st June 2025 at 2:00 PM

Washington D.C. June 10, 2025: The Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia in Washington D.C. wishes to inform the Gambian diaspora community in the United States of America and other Gambian citizens that the U.S. government has informed the Embassy about its policy changes governing border security and immigration enforcement activities in the United States. The United States Department of State has asked governments to bring the new policy changes to the attention of their citizens. The statement reads as follows:
