Teachers in the Nioro Jattaba Cluster Hold Annual Gala
The Nioro Jattaba Cluster Teachers Association held its annual Gala on Saturday, 5th July 2025, bringing together educators from across the cluster and neighbouring communities.
The Gala is a special annual convergence of teachers and education stakeholders, aimed at fostering peer encouragement, community engagement, recognition of excellence, and sportsmanship. It serves as a platform for promoting unity among educators while celebrating their contributions through awards and recreational activities.
The event focused on strengthening collaboration among teachers and encouraging professional development within the cluster.
Mr Omar K. Sallah, a teacher at Nioro Jattaba Sankandi Senior Secondary School and an active member of the association, stressed the importance of developing strong relationships with students to guide them through life’s challenges.
“We are teachers here to prepare young people, and only God knows the impact we are making on them,” he said. Mr Sallah further urged his colleagues to continue upgrading their knowledge and skills to meet the evolving demands of the profession.
Another teacher, Mr Bubacarr Darboe, called for greater solidarity among members.
“We are not just here to talk, but to promote unity among ourselves,” he said, underscoring the need for collective strength in addressing the challenges faced by the sector.
The event’s guest speaker, Hon. Bakary K. Badjie, National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang, commended the teachers for their dedication to students and the wider community. He encouraged them to be vocal against injustice and to actively contribute to nation-building.
“We are seeing our young people dying at sea, which is heartbreaking,” he noted, calling for united action to address such pressing issues. Hon. Badjie also reaffirmed his support for teachers and their role in shaping the future.
During the Gala, certificates were presented to several Lower Basic Schools within the cluster, including Nioro, Keneba, Bajana, Jefarong, Jattaba, and Kully K***a.
The association also marked a significant increase in its membership, which has grown from 40 to 90 in the space of a year.
The event concluded with a renewed call for teachers to continue promoting unity, excellence, and strong relationships with students, parents, and the community in their shared mission to positively impact the lives of young people in the area.
