SPAIN BOUND PASSENGER ARRESTED AT BANJUL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WITH (131) PELLETS OF CO***NE

DLEAG operatives stationed at the Banjul International Airport conducted a sting operation that resulted in the seizure of one hundred and thirty-one (131) pellets of suspected co***ne. Ebrima Makalo, a Gambian national holding a Spanish residential permit was arrested at the boarding gate of Veuling flight en route to Barcelona, Spain. The said incident happened on Saturday 22nd June 2024 and the drugs were concealed in his boxer.

The arrest is part of series of interdiction effected by operatives as DLEAG alongside other security apparatus stationed at the airport intensify security measures aimed at ensuring that the airport remains a hostile territory for illicit drug traffickers and their patrons.

Prior to this incident, DLEAG operatives alongside AVSEC security personnel earlier on arrested one Lamin Keita who was also traveling with Vueling airline to Barcelona on the 11TH of June 2024 with four (4) blocks of co***ne weighing five (5) kilograms. Similarly, Abdourahim Diallo, a Senegalese National holding a Spanish residential permit was clutched at the cabin screening point during checking for Royal Air Maroc flight to Casablanca with of 120 pellets and three (3) parcels of co***ne weighing 2kg 400g. His final destination was Spain.

The suspect was taken into custody while further investigations continue

KMC and Partners Clear Drains
In preparation for the coming rainy season, the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) is collaborating with development partners to clear drains in the municipality. These efforts are aimed at mitigating floods and to protect disaster-prone areas.
The Council has already cleared the following drains:
1. Kairaba Avenue
2. Jakaranda - GTTI
3. Buffer Zone - Tallinding Inside
4. Nawec - Paramilitary Mosque
5. Churchill Junction - Tallinding
6. Drains within Serrekunda Market
7. Drains within Latrikunda Sabiji Market
8. Bakau Farokono Exit Point
Meanwhile under the WACA Project the following areas were successfully cleared :
1. Dippa K***a - Safideen
2. Safideen - Bakoteh Bridge
3. Kotu Manjai Road (both sides)
4. SOS Junction - Bakoteh Police Station
5. Latrikunda Yiri Nganya - Main Stream
6. Bakoteh Fish - Bridge
7. Dippa K***a - Manjai
Additionally, the National Roads Authority (NRA) will clean other drains on main highways.
To ensure the improvemt of resilience, the West Africa Coastal Areas project will also clear the Kotu Stream and procure six water pumping machines.
KMC and its partners therefore urge residents to support this process and refrain from littering the drains.

A fire broke out at a military ammunition depot in N'Djamena, Chad's capital, causing a series of explosions.

The blaze, which resulted in human and material damage, has prompted President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno to call for calm and promise an investigation into its cause. The number of casualties and the extent of the damage are so far unknown.

The incident occurred less than a month after Deby's swearing-in following elections, ending three years of military rule.

Senegal's Minister of the Interior and Public Security, General Jean-Baptiste Tine, called for calm and peace following a confrontation between the residents of Médina Gounass and Médina Huda in Senegal on June 17, which resulted in one death and about twenty injuries.

During his visit on June 18 to the caliphs of both communities, Thierno Amadou Tidiane Bâ and Thierno Mounirou Baldé, he urged them to convey the message of restraint to the youth, emphasizing his role as a messenger of peace on behalf of President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
