We are delighted to inform all Gambian film lovers that 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, a registered independent film production company, is proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new event, the 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥. This first-of-its-kind festival in The Gambia will celebrate and honour the creative talents of Gambian filmmakers through awards and special recognitions.

Registration, film submissions for competition, and participation in the training workshops will be completely free for all filmmakers. Additionally, there will be 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, allowing the public to enjoy and appreciate the incredible work of homegrown talent.

A special thank you goes to our visionary leader, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦, for spearheading this remarkable initiative. We also call on partners and stakeholders to support this important effort, which forms part of our broader mission to promote Destination Gambia through the power of film.

Gamstars Movie Production to Launch First-Ever Banjul Film Festival in December

In a groundbreaking move for the country's creative industry, Gamstars Movie Production has announced plans to organize the first-ever Banjul Film Festival, scheduled for December 2025. This historic event is poised to become a national platform for showcasing Gambian filmmaking talent and celebrating the growing local film industry.

The Director of Gamstars, Pa Modou Cham, hailed the initiative as a transformative opportunity for Gambian creatives, emphasizing the importance of building a vibrant film culture in the country.

“This festival is not just about screening films – it’s about creating a space for Gambian stories to be told, seen, and celebrated. It’s also a call to action for all stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and international partners, to support the Gambia’s emerging film industry,” said Cham.

The Banjul Film Festival aims to serve as a national day for film screenings, competitions, and talent recognition, bringing together filmmakers, actors, producers, and film lovers from across the country. Organizers say the event will feature a rich lineup of local films, panel discussions, workshops, and awards for outstanding productions.

According to Cham, the festival also presents an opportunity to inspire the next generation of creatives and attract investment into the cultural and creative industries sector, which remains underfunded in The Gambia.

“We want this festival to become an annual event that puts Gambian cinema on the map. With the right support, we can build an industry that contributes to national development, job creation, and cultural preservation,” he added.

Preparations for the December 2025 event are already underway, with Gamstars reaching out to stakeholders, production houses, and sponsors. A call for film submissions and program details are expected to be released in the coming months.

The launch of the Banjul Film Festival marks a new chapter for the Gambian film community, offering a long-awaited platform for visibility, collaboration, and celebration of homegrown talent.

Badou (Male Lead)

- Description: A charismatic yet conflicted young man, Badou is torn between honoring his family’s traditional values and forging his own path. He is intelligent, strong-willed, and emotionally complex, requiring an actor who can display vulnerability, resilience, and inner strength.

Sainabou (Female Lead)
- Age: 22-30
- Ethnicity: Gambian
- Description: A fiercely independent woman who is deeply connected to her cultural roots. Sainabou is strong, passionate, and pragmatic, balancing a sense of justice with personal ambition. The role requires an actress with emotional depth and the ability to portray both sensitivity and resolve.

Baboucar (Supporting Role - Antagonist)
- Age: 30-45
- Ethnicity: Gambian
- Description: A powerful and calculating man, Baboucar is a central figure in Badou’s life. Driven by ambition, he manipulates those around him to achieve his goals, no matter the cost. The role requires an actor with strong presence, able to convey both charm and menace.

Mariama (Supporting Role - Friend/Confidante)
- Age: 20-28
- Ethnicity: Gambian
- Description: Mariama is a loyal and supportive friend to Sainabou, offering wisdom and emotional support in times of crisis. She is grounded and warm, with the ability to balance humor and seriousness. Chemistry with the lead actress is essential for this role.

Amadou (Supporting Role - Elder/Advisor)
- Age: 50-70
- Ethnicity: Gambian
- Description: Amadou is a wise elder in Badou's family, offering guidance and counsel in times of turmoil. He is a figure of authority, compassion, and tradition. The actor should have a commanding presence and deliver wisdom with both power and tenderness.

- Various Roles: Market-goers, townsfolk, family members, etc.
- Description: Energetic, authentic, and comfortable in a variety of settings, especially those reflecting traditional Gambian life. Previous experience in local environments or community-based roles is a plus.
