The Story of Abdou Jallow of Bansang
Abdou Jallow was a young man from Bansang — full of dreams, laughter, and courage. Like many others, he longed for a better life, one that could help his family and change his story. In search of hope, Abdou joined the Backway journey, leaving behind his loved ones and the familiar warmth of home.
The road was not what he expected. It was filled with hardship, hunger, and pain. He was maltreated and saw things no one should ever have to see. Yet through it all, Abdou held on — his strength and faith kept him alive until he finally made it back home to The Gambia.

When he returned, his heart carried both scars and wisdom. He spoke of his journey not with bitterness, but with the hope that others would learn from his story. He tried to rebuild his life, surrounded by family, friends, and the community that loved him.

But today, fate took a different turn. Abdou’s life was cut short by a tragic bike accident. The same young man who survived the dangers of the desert and sea could not escape the sudden hand of destiny on his own soil.

Bansang mourns him deeply — a brother, a son, a friend, a survivor. Abdou’s story reminds us of the pain and courage behind every journey, and the fragile beauty of life itself.
Now the family needs us all
