PRESS RELEASE
Film Producers Association of The Gambia (FPAG) Encourage Members
To Carry Identification (ID) Cards
In the wake of recent identification challenges during filming in public spaces, the Film Producers Association of The Gambia (FPAG) encourages all registered and prospective members to obtain and always carry their valid FPAG IDs for proper identification, safety and specific presentation upon demand by law enforcement officers or custodians of selected filming locations across The Gambia.
FPAG is conscious of the evolving media landscape with countless opportunities for filmmakers to engage in audio-visual activities beyond the classic production of fictional films and documentaries such as instant content generation for television and online news platforms, music videos for performance artistes and image videography for various institutions.
Members should carry FPAG IDs to distinguish them from other creative cadres during filming activities. This distinction will further embolden their standing as vetted professionals who respect the ethical boundaries between filmmaking, journalism, social media content creation, and activism.
FPAG is the recognized collecting bargaining group of professional filmmakers in The Gambia under the supervision of the statutory National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Membership is open to those involved in the intellectual, creative, financial and technical decision-making process of audio-visual projects namely, film scholars, executive producers (investors), directors, producers, production managers, cinematographers, and film/video editors.
As the primary voice of decision-makers in the Gambian audio-visual industry, FPAG is steadfast in advancing the welfare of filmmakers through academic and vocational capacity building, copyright protection, resource mobilization for creative and cultural entrepreneurship, occupational health and safety, social security, health care, maintenance of professional and ethical standards, project support, documentation, development cooperation, recommendation for collaborations and facilitation of international cultural exchanges.
FPAG will be initiating “The Gambia Film Awards” to recognize excellence and encourage professionalism in the national audio-visual sectors and entry for the various prize categories will be open to members with valid FPAG IDs.
The issuing of cards is going. Current or aspiring members can contact the FPAG Vice President (+2202270414) or Public Relations Officer (+2202030619) for guidance.
