Burkina Faso has refused to accept deportees from the United States, saying Washington’s proposal to return its nationals lacked respect for human dignity, the country’s foreign minister said.

Foreign Affairs Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore told reporters the U.S. request did not align with Burkina Faso’s principles on human rights and national sovereignty.

His remarks come as several African nations, including Eswatini, Ghana, Rwanda and South Sudan, have recently agreed to take back citizens deported from the United States as part of broader migration enforcement efforts.
