The opening of 85th Ordinary session of the African Commission for Human and People's Right (ACHPR) 2025at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Center in Bijilo , The Gambia

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) was established under Article 30 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which is also known as the Banjul Charter.

The African Charter was adopted by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) (now the African Union, AU) on June 27, 1981, in Nairobi, Kenya.

It came into force on October 21, 1986, after receiving the required number of ratifications.

The ACHPR officially began its work in 1987, and its headquarters are in Banjul, The Gambia.

The Association of Amputee in the Gambia hole a day long discussion with the village council of jarra soma and the Village development committee (VDC). The discussion center on the important of people's who are amputee in our society

Mr Sheriff Kinteh president of the Gambia amputee association said " the aim is for the association to expand into all parts of the country. And also to discuss the opportunities available for the members of the amputee association in country".

Cameroon is facing a surge in military desertions (soldiers leaving their posts without permission) as troops head to Ukraine, attracted by salaries up to 14 times higher - from around $233 per month at home to $2,000–$3,294 abroad, plus bonuses and benefits.

This weakens the army at a time when it is battling serious threats, including Boko Haram insurgents in the north. In response, the Cameroonian government is urgently seeking better ways, including improved welfare, to keep soldiers from leaving.
