                                            The opening of 85th Ordinary session of the African Commission for Human and People's Right (ACHPR) 2025at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Center in Bijilo , The Gambia 
The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) was established under Article 30 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which is also known as the Banjul Charter.
The African Charter was adopted by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) (now the African Union, AU) on June 27, 1981, in Nairobi, Kenya.
It came into force on October 21, 1986, after receiving the required number of ratifications.
The ACHPR officially began its work in 1987, and its headquarters are in Banjul, The Gambia.
