On this solemn 20th anniversary of the West African migrant killings in The Gambia, we remember the over 50 innocent lives lost—predominantly Ghanaians, alongside Nigerians, Togolese, Ivorians, Senegalese, and Gambians—in a tragic massacre that has left deep wounds across the region. Despite past attempts, justice for these victims has long been delayed.
Today,July 22, 2025 the families of the victims renew their call for truth, justice, and accountability. They demand transparent investigations, prosecution of those responsible, and full reparations for the survivors and bereaved families. Their courageous fight for recognition and redress continues to inspire regional solidarity and a collective commitment to human rights.
As we commemorate this tragedy, we urge governments, civil society, and international partners to uphold the dignity of the victims by ensuring that such atrocities never recur and that justice is finally done. The memory of those lost calls on us all to strengthen protections for all persons and confront impunity wherever it arises
