Awa Bodian, the 22-year-old student accused of murdering her twin sister Adama in Ziguinchor on June 13, has confessed to the killing but insists it was unintentional.

According to her statement to investigators, as reported by L'Observateur, Awa explained that she had offered Adama 2,000 CFA francs as partial repayment of a 3,500 CFA franc debt. Adama allegedly rejected the money and attacked her.

After an initial scuffle - reportedly broken up by their brother and neighbors - Awa said she left to buy medication for sickle cell. Upon her return, Adama allegedly attacked her again from behind, pulling her hair extensions.

In the ensuing struggle, Awa fatally stabbed her sister in the chest with a pair of scissors she was using to cut her hair. “I acknowledge the facts charged against me, but I had no intention of hurting my twin sister, much less killing her,” Awa told investigators, adding that she only realized her sister was injured when neighbors intervened.

President Barrow Dons Military Attire, Five-Star Cap at GAF Passing Out Parade, Signaling Security Commitment

BANJUL, The Gambia In a moment that captured national attention, President Adama Barrow, Commander-in-Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), made a striking appearance in full military uniform locally referred to as ataya during the passing out ceremony of GAF Intake 39.

What stood out even more was the President’s five-star cap, a symbol of the highest military authority. His choice of attire was unexpected but deeply symbolic, interpreted by many as a bold gesture reaffirming his government’s dedication to strengthening the country’s security and defense systems.

The presence of the Head of State in full regalia not only boosted the morale of graduating soldiers but also sent a clear message: national security remains a top priority for the Barrow administration.

President Adama Barrow attended a Gambia Armed Forces graduation event for Intake 39. Instead of his usual civilian outfit, he wore a complete military uniform, including a cap with five stars symbolizing his role as the supreme commander of the armed forces. This was seen by many as a powerful public message: that he is taking national security seriously and is committed to reforming or strengthening the military. It’s a rare but strategic move that draws public and media attention, reinforcing the idea that the presidency is actively engaged in security matters.
