Possibility of Flights being affected during Peak Period

PNG Air has advised it's customers, and the travelling public of the possible impact of fuel rationing that could have on its flights over the Christmas period.

As it stands, there is fuel rationing in the ports which is putting strain on the airline's operation. PNG Air is working on a solution and managing with the situation with best possible contingencies to get customers to their loved ones over the Christmas break.

During this time PNG Air will not be responsible for accommodating disrupted passengers as limited fuel allocation throughout the network places safety constraints on the operation of its aircraft. Delays and or cancelled flights due to fuel restrictions and or weather are possible, these decisions, if made, will be in the best interest of passenger safety.

Under the circumstances, PNG Air has assessed that the integrity of its current schedule will be challenged. The airline company is continually reviewing schedules and fuel availability and decisions regarding flights will be driven by operational safety.

PNG Air has sincerely apologised for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciates the general publics understanding during this time.

Masiu: Shortwave to return

The National Minister for Communications and South Bougainville MP, Timothy Masiu says, his ministry and department are working to return the shortwave radio transmission service of the National Broadcaster, NBC into the country by next year.

The shortwave service of the NBC had been most effective in bridging the nation with news and information prior to independence and thereafter, however over the years the service had become obsolete.

Minister Timothy Masiu told the National Parliament sitting this week that NBC would be working to restore the shortwave service before the country celebrates its 50th independence anniversary next year.

He says, all provincial stations including the service in Bougainville will have the shortwave restored to once again hook up the nation to the national broadcaster.

Minister Masiu says, the iconic NBC had been neglected over the years by successive government, leaving many of its provincial stations starving for funds, run down and even not functioning.

Minister Masiu thanked the Marape Government for its recognition of the service providing funding over the years, which he says, has brought the NBC out of the ICU and restoring it with life.

Vidot helps USA to victory against South Africa

Former NRL star Daniel Vidot scored his first try for the United States as the Hawks over-powered South Africa 38-18 in Pretoria.

Vidot, who played 114 NRL matches for the Raiders, Dragons, Broncos and Titans, scored the opening try and performed strongly playing centre in his debut for the USA.

The 34-year-old moved to the United States in 2018 to pursue a career with the WWE and qualifies for the Hawks under International Rugby League's five-year residency rule.

He has previously played 10 Tests for Samoa, including the 2013 World Cup and 2014 Four Nations tournament, and was selected for the Hawks after playing for DC Cavalry in the USARL's north-east Rugby League United conference.

Former Toronto Wolfpack centre Ryan Burroughs, who spent a season with the Eels, and Wes Piggins, a nephew of Rabbitohs patriarch George Piggins, are other Hawks players with NRL links.

USA coach Sean Rutgerson played for Canberra and North Sydney Bears, while also representing South Africa at the 2000 World Cup.

Tries by Vidot, winger Andre Williams and second-rower Wes Piggins gave the Hawks an early 16-0 lead, but the Rhinos narrowed the deficit to 20-12 at halftime.

Williams finished with a hat-track, while ho**er Mason McCrory, five-eighth Ryan Bannerot and interchange forward Derek Lipscomb also scored as the tourists ran out 38-18 winners.

The second Test between the USA and South Africa will be played on Saturday.

15 markets to benefit from Water Security and Rural Markets Development Project

Over 3,000 local vendors across 15 markets in 6 districts of East Sepik Province will benefit from a Water Security and Rural Markets Development Project supported by Australia.

The project will include the installation of water tank facilities, small scale market infrastructure such as shelters, tables and benches and engaging communities to manage the market facilities.

East Sepik Governor Allan Bird last week presented a cheque of K420,000 to the Australian High Commission Minister Counsellor Penny Morton as counterpart funding alongside Australia's investment of K4.5million toward this project.

This initiative is part of Australia's commitment under the PNG–Australia Comprehensive Strategic and Economic Partnership, aimed at strengthening cooperation in PNG's priority regions and economic corridors to drive growth, enhance stability, and improve service delivery.

PEOPLE WHO MOVE TO PORT MORESBY BECAUSE OF TRIBAL FIGHTS NEED TO RETURN BACK HOME OR BEHAVE WHILE IN THE CITY

Prime Minister James Marape had warned people who left their provinces because of tribal fights to return back home or behave while living in Port Moresby because of the way they are behaving in the city.

While commending Moresby North East Member of Parliament John Kaupa for the initiative to build the new police station at Nine Mile he also strongly warned people who escaped from tribal fights and are coming into the city causing more problems that had painted a bad image to him and the country as a whole need to return back to their respective provinces.

He said the new Bill that had been passed in Parliament will now help the police to punish people who do not abide by the law of this country. PM Marape said the Counter Terrorism Bill that was passed will now help police to come hard on those who break the law.

During the Speech he also challenged the Engans, the Taris and those who moved to the city must behave like the original landowners of NCD and those who had been living in the city in the past when Port Moresby was very peaceful.

PM Marape said the Motu-Koita, the Koiari and those who lived in the city in the past consume alcohol and behave in an orderly manner but it is not the same now. He said people who misbehave must leave the city and return back to where they came from.
